There was an MST3K film that was supposed to be a monster movie but then finally the narrator says something to the effect of, "...but there was no monster." That's what Trump is doing: "...but there was no Epstein Files." It's Deep State a Go-Go.

Maaaaaaan, that's bad, and it's gonna keep getting worse. I know part of their plan is to destroy universities, but this is already ruining the tourism sector, and soon it'll kill a *ton* of private companies.

TFW you know portions of the history, know it ties too well to what's going on right now, but reading it all in one place and getting more details just makes it all the more depressing. Do seem like some good books to pick up, though. www.nybooks.com/articles/202...

nybooks.comHitler’s Enablers | Christopher R. BrowningThe complicity of conservative nationalists in the Nazi takeover of Germany in 1933 offers disturbing parallels to the current American political situation.

Not a fan of current Dem leadership, but what kind of leftists are we if all we keep asking is "why aren't tHe dEmS doing anything?!" Since when has *anything of value* been accomplished by waiting for elected politicians to take the lead?

You will not get talented people willing to consider government jobs — where traditionally there’s been greater stability to compensate for the pay cut you take — when people see entire departments are always one bad ketamine trip away from annihilation.

Civics teacher here, can confirm

1 more point on literacy: it's a disaster that the inner workings of the US government are incredibly complicated and illogical (filibuster, reconciliation, Electoral College, etc). parliaments work better bc dipshits can pick a party that sounds good and see that legibly translated into outcomes

Always wondered about those commercials that said you can feed a kid for 50 cents a day or whatever; turns out they're true. In other words, the last bit of info on this is probably the best advice: if you want to help a food bank, *give money*.

They've met their target number, but keep an eye out for more chances to help teachers who are in legal trouble in some states for daring to do something as bold as, let's see...have books in the classroom with LGBT+ characters in them. Yep. www.gofundme.com/f/help-a-ded...

Everyone making "Tribal Chief" references, I'm over here trying to get a Samoa Joe-esque "SEAN IS GONNA KILL YOU!" chant over. Love this (re)signing!

there is a 24/7 right-wing propaganda apparatus that operates across multiple mediums and it designed to do exactly this: smother any kind of local, material concern with cultural war signifiers and cultivate a “political affiliation as team sport” ethos

Montana is the clearest place to see the nationalization of US politics. Whole Dem ticket was multigenerational MT hunters & farmers in bolo ties. Dem gov candidate owned a gun manufacturer. GOP slate was outta state tech. Whole race was dominated by natl culture war & southern border, GOP sweep

That a dude with a couple cameras and a plate of appetizers can make something worth $82.5 million and a media company looks at that and goes "couldn't we make even more money if we had AI do it?" tells you exactly how stupid these people are

TheDesk.net@thedesk.net

The $82.5 million sale of "Hot Ones" studio First We Feast is part of a broader strategy at BuzzFeed to shift away from human editors, writers and content producers in favor of artificial intelligence, which result in "high-margin, tech-enabled revenue lines."

Reminder: every time you complain about "the DNC" or any other even nominally progressive group, *this is the electorate they're dealing with*. These people lived through the guy's first presidency, which failed spectacularly, and said "more, please", because to them *nothing matters*.

jamelle@jamellebouie.net

we're cooked

More to the point: it's the electorate WE are dealing with. We can't just wishcast full-throated progressive policies being made and pure, not-at-all compromised progressives winning elections, we have to actively figure out how to navigate this stuff.

I always enjoy teaching the Thirty Years' War, since it means bringing up the Defenestration of Prague. ...ok, so it's more about getting to use the word "defenestrate" than anything else, sue me.

Wait, I thought eggs cost $500 each and so we had to elect a fascist to the presidency. Are you telling me that's not the case? You're making it look like that's not the case. (Record airline travel that week, too, btw). www.forbes.com/sites/joanve...
