Anyone a potential historical reference point for the combination of these three phenomena? (so not their individual occurence, or only two out of three)
The combination of epistemic crisis, hyperpolitics, and loss of optimistic shared futures is in turn incredibly fertile soil for cultivating demagoguery.

Today, Algerian parliament voted in favor of deploying Algerian military to Niger, allegedly to defend oil facilities some of which are jointly operated by Algerian state companies. Again, unprecented, even if scope is limited,we will see where exactly they will station.
Amid rumors of an unprecedented Algerian base in Niger, there seems to be a crisis ongoing within AES, with Burkina Faso being clear outlier. For now only signs, but ever since Traoré apparently refused to help during the Niamey coup, welcomed Israeli diplomat, tensions are stark.

Next to Nizhny Novgorod region, for an interesting strike. Despite masses of Russian air defence, Ukraine managed to hit a data centre. But this one in Gorodets hit Russia's Tax Service. If they lose data it will cause genuine chaos in revenue raising from the public.
"We found that that humans agreed as much or more with AI’s judgment than they did with other humans: human editors agreed with other human editors 80% of the time but on average 87% of the time with the AI’s judgment."
Gary King just dropped a study showing that AI peer reviews now dominate human peer reviews on every metric they tested. gking.harvard.edu/peerless/

In new analysis for @WarFrontsWeekly I discuss the American withdrawal from Iraq and how Islamic State will be trying to comeback, exploiting regional crises. Events in Kirkuk heavily suggest the organization is looking for space between KRG and Baghdad. fronts.co/article/the-...

It is so important that European leaders acknowledge the truth as Kaja Kallas does here. Trump and the USG have been trying to force Ukraine to surrender for almost two years. There has been no recent pivot to Russia. It’s been a constant US policy www.euronews.com/2026/10/20/k...

When teachers leave, experience leaves too. New research finds small but consistent links between teacher turnover and lower learning gains. And notably, turnover among general education teachers also matters for students with disabilities. wp.me/p2nWPo-6hm

Apologies to prof. @yfreykers.bsky.social to copy his post from LinkedIn here, but just more proof of how unsustainable the current academic publishing regime + AI is. How do you peer review a 100% increase in submissions *each year*?
