"The coalition that built a motto around “protect women’s sports” is splintering as some conservatives argue that a decades-old policy boosting female athletes is a threat to men." We knew this but lot of media/political pundits pretended otherwise: "defend women sports" wingnuts were full of BS.

what Florida Democrats have flipped today: —the school board of Sarasota County (one the more symbolic strongholds of Moms for Liberty) —the office of the school board chair in Orange County —an at-large city council seat in Jacksonville

Did you also see trans kids who’ve had their entire existence politicized? Or parents who lay awake at night unsure if their kid will have their prescription ripped away this week? Or were you not looking for their stories?

Gluesenkamp Perez: "At town halls, what I saw was the people who were the most upset had spent the last 12 years driving their girls to sports practice & they view their best shot of their student going to college as an athletic scholarship. So when we rush to moralize we miss some of the nuance."

So a FL man, who rioted at the US Capitol on January 6 and was put back on the street by Donald Trump, went on to molest multiple middle schoolers. He tried to bribe those children into silence by offering them a cut of his piece of Trump’s eventual taxpayer-fueled slush fund.

⚖️🏳️‍⚧️Florida's obsession with attacking transgender people just got called out in court. A federal judge handed AG Uthmeier another L – and blocked Florida's attempt to punish the American Academy of Pediatrics for supporting evidence-based healthcare for transgender youth.

"I want Ron DeSantis to know…that try as he might to silence us, to snuff out our joy, our pride, to crush us under the weight of authoritarianism, we're still in Florida. We're still here. We're still queer. It's still our state, too. And there's nothing he can do about that.”

Some ✨news✨ More to come, but our announcement sums it up: “I hear the whispers: ‘is Florida beyond repair? Is there still hope?’...There is no more powerful answer to those whispers than the contagious courage, resilient joy, & defiant resolve of Floridians fighting every day for a better future."

Those who fear accountability try to crush dissent. But they underestimate who they’re up against.

The Tennessee Speaker of the House will remove all Democratic Caucus members from standing committees and subcommittees as punishment for their redistricting protests. Democracy dies in Nashville.

You mean we could have had rat-proof trash bins the whole time? (Asking for me, a DC resident on the rat frontline)

Good news for New Yorkers, bad news for rats: all trash will be in rat-proof bins by the end of 2031. No more black bags on the sidewalks — it’s time to put a lid on it.

Good riddance, I’ll miss you, or something in between. I’m not really sure. All I know is…it’s hard to believe it’s been ten years. May what’s coming next bring much needed healing.

Then it wasn’t. Suddenly it was bullet holes in the door we escaped from. Jagged concrete in a wall they had to breach. Haunting pictures of bodies on the floor. Faces of friends frozen in time. Suddenly it was the black box you could never really escape, the horror you could never really run from.

I don’t know how to feel. I’m sad it’s gone, a sort of finality that hits like I didn’t expect. I’m glad it’s gone, a weight lifted. I’m still not really ready to say goodbye. I’m ready to put this chapter behind us and have somewhere real to sit and reflect without that monster looming behind you.

That building was my place. When I was convinced I wanted to be a music artist, it’s the first place I heard my debut single in public. When I wanted to do Halloween with abandon, it’s the first place I put on *the* costume. It saw birthdays & breakups, VIP & nights on a budget. Pulse was our spot.

By the way…Florida just canceled HIV treatment coverage for 16,000 people citing a “$120million shortfall.” Meanwhile, Pete Hegseth got more than 2x that much money blown out of the sky (in the form of 3 fighter jets) on a Monday morning. The priorities are clear.

Florida just cut off access to HIV treatment for 16,000 people. And they’re not alone. It’s not just cruelty…it’s a deadly public health crisis in the making. Resources for those directly impacted at the end.

This summer is ten years. Ten years since my best friends became missing faces. Since groupchats became disconnected numbers. Since a man turned our night out for drinks into 49 funerals. Ten years and Florida politicians keep looking for new ways to inflict pain.

This is what the right wing's toxicity looks like when it festers. Endless bills like this, spitting in the faces of people who've already paid the ultimate price, while nothing gets easier and nothing gets solved. Our memorial space is sacred ground - not your political punching bag.

This summer is ten years. Ten years since my best friends became missing faces. Since groupchats became disconnected numbers. Since a man turned our night out for drinks into 49 funerals. Ten years and Florida politicians keep looking for new ways to inflict pain.

This bill could upend the memorial to those stolen from us, to the night our world was turned upside down, just six months after the Governor was arresting people over chalk on that same street's crosswalk. Whose life is being made better?

Rent is out of control, health care too, but the legislature is thirsty for a bill to defund translation of city information into Spanish, repeal HIV outreach programs for LGBTQ+ people, and let white supremacists sue cities for recognizing Jewish holidays? Whose life is more affordable?

This week, the Site Formerly Known as Twitter was ablaze with debate over polling data on transgender rights. I still have issues with the poll itself. But what leapt out to me from the back and forth was something bigger: can we persuade in a digital age? brandonjwolf.substack.com/p/persuasion...

brandonjwolf.substack.comPersuasion: Democracy's Dying Art?The hard part about making progress is changing people's minds. Especially when our minds are living in digital silos.

While a wildfire threatens their state, Kansas Republicans rammed through a bill to let weirdos stalk your daughter's bathroom stall to try and collect an anti-trans bounty. Remind me again who is obsessed?

We've watched the consequences of this over and over again. A bunch of old guys in a state Capitol pass a bill they were handed from a right wing think tank. They don't care what it says or does. And within months, women are being stalked, harassed, and filmed in bathrooms. Rinse. Repeat.

Iran is one of 12 nations that still execute queer people. But that’s not stopping the Trump admin from deploying ICE to endanger our community’s lives. It’s the same terror that murdered Renee, imprisoned Andry, and continues to force LGBTQ+ people to live in fear. Do not let this go unnoticed.

Aaron Reichlin-Melnick@reichlinmelnick.bsky.social

Another day, another outrage; ICE under Trump is going to deport dozens of people to Iran, including two gay men previously arrested by the regime who face the death penalty for their orientation, and despite the ongoing crackdowns which have killed thousands. An administration of total inhumanity.

Today, we get to host a retirement ceremony, presided over by General McChrystal, for 5 transgender servicemembers — whose total service eclipses 100 years and whose careers are being ended by Donald Trump. Simply because of who they are. @hrc.org
