Today I saw one of the weirdest and coolest sea slugs I've ever seen and it was in New Hampshire. This is Elysia chlorotica, a slug that eats algae and steals its chloroplasts to use for photosynthesis. Yes, this slug is solar powered! #seaslugs #underwaterphotography #macro #om1 #NewEngland ๐Ÿฆ‘ ๐Ÿ“ท

In honor of Indigenous People's Day, here is a 0.5s exposure of the fountains outside the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C. This is a nice museum with interesting exhibits. Definitely worth a visit! #washingtondc #indigenouspeoplesday #fountains #longexposure #water

A little solar photography from last Friday (2026-10-09) - lots of activity in that one little area, but not much elsewhere. Still cool to see the shapes! Acqusition details: buff.ly/ZdSnI7L #astrophotography #sun #solarsytem #star #touptek #skywatcherUSA

Throwing it back to my first attempt at Andromeda back in 2021. This is 10 x 4s exposures captured with my Canon T3 + 75-300mm kit lens + tripod + intervalometer. I've stepped up my game since! I am currently working on a 4-panel LRGB mosaic of Andromeda ๐Ÿ˜€ #throwback #astrophotography #galaxy ๐Ÿ”ญ ๐Ÿ“ท

Throwback to 2023 in the Philippines with a colorful peacock mantis shrimp! Famous for their crazy-strong punching power, they use clubbed front appendages to crack shells and defend themselves. So pretty! Prints: buff.ly/YHSyD5s #underwaterphotography #shrimp #wildlife #colorful #philippines ๐Ÿฆ‘๐Ÿ“ท

Hereโ€™s a fang blenny peeking out of an encrusted bottle. Don't let that goofy smile fool you - they pack a venomous bite for defense! The venom drops makes the predator's muscles go limp, letting the blenny swim right out of its mouth! #blenny #smile #philippines #macro #underwaterphotography ๐Ÿฆ‘ ๐Ÿ“ท

Itโ€™s official: back to the Philippines in 2027 for Dumaguete muck diving & Tubbataha reefs! ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ Celebrating with throwbacks, starting with the "Leaf Sheep" sea slug (Costasiella sp.). They steal chloroplasts from algae to solar-power themselves! โ˜€๏ธ #nudibranchs #seaslugs #underwaterphotography ๐Ÿฆ‘ ๐Ÿ“ท

I heard a pileated woodpecker across the water while I was wandering around a local pond. I waited and it flew across the water and landed on the back of a nearby tree, sat there for 30 seconds, and then took off. Next time! #birds #missedshot #wildlife #woodpecker #NewEngland #om1 #olympus ๐Ÿฆ๏ธ ๐Ÿ“ท

This is a pair of solitary sandpipers. Seems like a bit of a misnomer if you ask me. I watched around 8 of them hopping around on the lily pads picking little bugs off the surface. #birds #wildlife #NewEngland #sandpiper #olympus #om1 ๐Ÿฆ๏ธ ๐Ÿ“ท

Found this Japanese Beetle perched on a cone flower. The metallic texture of these insects is wild. They are invasive, but so very pretty! Captured with my Olympus OM-1 + 60mm + Cygnustech diffuser. Prints: buff.ly/djZaw0J #beetle #insect #macro #olympus #om1 #shiny #colorful #bugs ๐Ÿ“ท ๐Ÿชฒ

The weather didn't allow me to see the orange moon during the eclipse last night, so instead you get a picture of this adorable red panda hanging out on a branch. I just want to snuggle them! #redpanda #animals #cincinnatizoo #cutenessoverload #wildlife

A jelly dive from early May! This was a wild year for jellies with a big variety in the spring giving way to huge numbers of Lion's Mane later in spring into summer. Taken at Old Garden Beach in Rockport, MA. #jellyfish #notafish #underwaterphotography #NewEngland #greenwater #om1 #scubadiving

UPDATE: Bats! ๐Ÿฆ‡๐Ÿฆ‡๐Ÿฆ‡ We've lived here for 7 years and only occasionally seen a single solitary bat. Tonight we had at least 3! Very exciting as we have plenty of mosquitoes for them to devour. #bats #wildlife #backyardcritters #newengland #bugcontrol

I had never seen a woodpecker munching on fruit, but this red-bellied woodpecker seemed to be really enjoying this apple. This orchard is a nice spot for birds with frequent bluebird sightings and a few species of woodpeckers. #birds #woodpecker #NewEngland #apples #birdwatching #yum #wildlife

I didn't take notes on this dive from April, but from my photos, the nudibranchs were clearly plentiful and the visibility was good. Good stuff! #NewEngland #nudibranchs #scubadiving #underwaterphotography #olympus #om1 ๐Ÿ“ท ๐Ÿฆ‘

Low tide dive at Peirce Island in New Hampshire with absolutely awful brown viz. That said, the nudis were still out in force, so I still took a lot of photos without wandering very far. They did need some extra color correction though... #nudibranchs #underwaterphotography #scuba #om1 ๐Ÿฆ‘ ๐Ÿ“ท

I got eyes on this green heron on a few different days before it stuck around for a photo. I've been surprised to see them up in trees more often than hunting in the lily pads. Their call is very loud! Prints: buff.ly/ivB1f5B #greenheron #bird #NewEngland #nature #wildlife #om1 #wadingbird ๐Ÿฆ๏ธ ๐Ÿ“ท

A mother mallard and her five ducklings float together. Sometimes the ducklings wander and she quacks them back...but this was not one of those times. Prints: buff.ly/X9F0VJH #ducks #ducklings #animalbabies #wildlife #nature #pond #newengland #reflection

I've seen belted kingfishers from afar at a number of places I visit nearby, but I finally had one come close enough for a decent photograph. This juvenile had the crazy hair going on! #kingfisher #bird #wildlife #nature #birdwatching #animals #om1 ๐Ÿ“ท ๐Ÿฆ๏ธ

Judging by all the posts I've seen, whale watching has been excellent this year and the sand lance boom is a big reason why. Here's a video I took last year while scuba diving in Gloucester, MA. buff.ly/UKnPCSB #whales #whalewatch #foodchain #nature #wildlife #newengland #fish #gopro #scuba๐Ÿฆ‘ ๐Ÿ“ท ๐Ÿณ

youtube.comSand lance predationFolly Cove was jam-packed with tiny sand lance and their presence didn't go unnoticed. As the shoal dipped and dove to avoid becoming a meal, a school of larger fish hit them from the other side. I'mโ€ฆ

Epic whale watch. Bubble net feeding virtually under the boat. We could hear, see, and smell the whales in their feeding frenzy. Unreal, nature documentary stuff. Here's a little abstract nudibranch art. This is an extreme close-up of a Flabellina "verrilli" from New Hampshire this winter. Which do you prefer? #nudibranch #macro #closeup #abstract #underwaterphotography #om1 #scubadiving #wildlife ๐Ÿฆ‘๐Ÿ“ท

I saw some wild sunspot pictures online late yesterday (2026-06-29) and had to see for myself. I worried the sun was too low in the sky, but the live view looked great. Yay! Full res + details: buff.ly/ot2H6kd #sun #astrophotography #solarsystem #touptek #space #sunspots

I brought my camera on this dive in April, but failed to attach my flash trigger. I brought a video light so I did a quick swap underwater, spent awhile mucking around with settings and managed to get a few OK shots. #nudibranchs #NewHampshire #scubadiving #underwaterphotography #macro #om1 ๐Ÿ“ท ๐Ÿฆ‘

Tough visibility yesterday at Folly Cove in Gloucester, Massachusetts. The sand lance are out in force again! (The visibility actually was pretty bad despite lake-like surface conditions, but we had fun) #fish #wildlife #underwater #scubadiving #photography #school #green #om1 ๐Ÿ“ท ๐Ÿฆ‘ ๐ŸŸ๏ธ

OWL UPDATE! I went back to the place where I saw the crashed juvenile great horned owl and spotted two juveniles in that exact same tree. Looks like the crash victim made a full recovery! Yay! Eastern Bluebird! There was a pair flying around this area - I didn't see them entering any of the houses, but they stuck around, which makes me suspect there's a nest in one of them. They are beautiful birds! #birds #wildlife #om1 #telephoto #bluebird #blue #nature ๐Ÿ“ท ๐Ÿฆ๏ธ
