I want to have a Little Free Library for Banned Books. My vision is to make it look like a prison cell - but I’m not particularly crafty. Does anyone here have ideas for the design? Probably two shelves of kids books and one of adult books. All ideas welcome.

Home invasions. Child sex crimes. Homicide. Just a couple things that some of the 1500+ January 6 defendants have been convicted of since Trump released them back onto our streets. The GOP isn't the party of law and order. They're the party of lawlessness and violence.

Kelly: "I never expected after serving 25 years in the Navy flying combat missions over Iraq and Kuwait, flying the Space Shuttle, that now I've got to worry about my personal safety and that of my wife, Gabby Giffords, who was already nearly assassinated, because of something the president said."

Local media is calling it: Katie Wilson will be the next mayor of Seattle. Wilson ousts Mayor Bruce Harrell after running as a progressive challenger. Her win is a west coast companion to Mamdani’s as a statement victory for the left.

At 16 I did a part time job in a new supermarket. I asked who counts the people. Blank looks. "For the millionth customer prize," I explained. A colleague explained they just pick a photogenic person for a news story. That's when I realised there will never be justice.

In this economy why is right wing/conservative news always free, while the truth is nickel and dimeing (sp?) us for access, constantly? Every freaking outlet of quality is begging or blocking for money. We will never get the message out like the Right Wing does. It drives me crazy.

i think this is key. taking the deal would amount to taking the blame. it would turn a clear political victory into an unambiguous defeat.

If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?

Newsom: "Think about the state of mind of the VP. How do you square the circle when you go to a prayer breakfast? Old testament, new testament. What's the fundamental thing that connects John to Matthew to Proverbs? It's this notion of hunger, feeding the poor. It's central to advancing God's will."

Schiff: "The president -- 'I'm going out to play golf.' One thing that is so shocking to me is that they're appealing to the Supreme Court for the right to cut off food from people. Who does that? Who works so hard to cut food from people who need it right now? The cruelty is part of the policy."

Zohran Mamdani ran on freezing the rent in NYC. Abigail Spanberger ran on supporting fired federal workers and lowering the cost of living in VA. Mikie Sherrill ran on lowering utility bills in NJ. Ensuring people can afford to live a decent life is the path forward.

All you anti Muslim bigots who spread nothing but the most vile hate against Mamdani, I'm here for your meltdowns and tantrums. I'm all the way petty. Your tears are sugar for my chai.

i want to repeat this: mamdani and spanberger have run similar campaigns tailored to their respective electorates and it is maddening to watch political journalists attempt to create some broad contrast where none exist

jamelle@jamellebouie.net

the other thing about this is that there is no reason to pit these candidates against each other? each are good fits for their respective electorates and each shows the value of vigorous campaigns focused on the stated material problems of voters.

Welch: "This has nothing to do with the shutdown. The law requires and the funds are available to continue SNAP right now without any interruption. So that is a decision the president is making on his own to allow people to go hungry."

Amazon just announced 14,000 layoffs. Its CEO made over $40M last year. UPS announced 48,000 layoffs. Its CEO made over $24M last year. Intel announced 20,000 layoffs. Its new CEO's pay package is valued at nearly $69M. This is what I mean when I say the system is rigged.

Never in the history of the US has any president openly and repeatedly called for the investigation, arrest & prosecution of his political opponents. While many continue to shrug these things off and normalize them, I will never stop pointing out that this is what autocrats do.
