Regardless of severity, Sveltia CMS solves reported security vulnerabilities within a few hours — as long as I’m awake — even before replying to the reporters. In contrast, Decap CMS can take months, not even weeks, to ship fixes, It’s insane. I’ve never trusted the team behind it.

I received another security report today, and the fix was implemented and shipped within an hour. While this was made possible by Claude, it also demonstrates my responsiveness and commitment as a maintainer. For the record, none of the issues are critical.

I’ve never left Firefox & Gecko since the Netscape 6 era. Not because I was one of Mozilla’s early hires. (You may not believe me because I look half my age.) It’s simply a matter of trust. That’s why I’m still serving as an independent contractor, almost 25 years after I first started volunteering.

Since 2004, this community has helped make Firefox and the open internet possible. Our “Come Back to Firefox” campaign reunites a few early internet icons to remind people what made the internet special, and why it’s worth protecting.

The Sveltia CMS Showcase now features 700 sites! It’s probably the largest database in the headless CMS sector. My plan is to surpass the Joomla Showcase, which currently has 1,200 sites, by early next year. We would have the world’s largest CMS showcase.

Actually, Storyblok has 818 examples right now. It’s not a competitor, but our showcase will exceed it in a month.

Still, 700 is the largest in the Git-based headless CMS field. No one else spends as much time tracking projects. But I’m a marketer by nature… I know a showcase makes a difference.

Normalizing 5 releases per day 🙃

v0.245.0 brings i18n upgrades: fill in other locales’ empty values from the default locale while keeping them editable, localize field labels, hints and defaults, and write dates in each locale’s language. Plus a single-pane editor option and Relation/Select keys for keyed lists.

We’ve implemented single-file collections because I know that, among (showcased) @sveltiacms.app users, vanilla JavaScript is the second most popular “framework” with a 15% share. My extensive research into showcases not only aims to share examples, but also to enable data-driven decision-making.

v0.224.0 adds a `readonly` option to lock content, single-file JSON collections, automatic renaming of uploaded files with `filename_template`, React hooks via `CMS.React`, field-level media storage options that inherit the top-level ones, and more accurate type declarations.

#Jamstack framework watch, October edition: As I said last month, custom tooling has overtaken Next.js and Jekyll, becoming the 5th most popular “framework” among @sveltiacms.app users. Astro and Eleventy are still going up, while all the others are down.

All done by Claude Opus 5.5 🐙

⚠️ SECURITY UPDATE: v0.221.7 fixed four vulnerabilities found in our own code review, including a low-severity XSS with SVG images and a medium-severity issue in the GitLab Editorial Workflow. As always, we recommend using the latest version of Sveltia CMS to benefit from improvements.

We launched the showcase in January with 60 sites. While we’ll never know the exact number of users, I can see real growth: a tenfold increase in 8 months. Not bad for a personal project?

We’ll never know the exact number of users, but based on my intensive tracking of GitHub repositories, this increase should be accurate. I’m sure no one else in the CMS industry does this kind of research, which includes finding out which CMSs people are migrating from.

#Jamstack framework watch, September edition: Following the mainstream adoption of vanilla JavaScript, custom tooling is gaining traction and is set to surpass Next.js and Jekyll. Together, they now account for 25%+ of static sites. Astro 35%+, Hugo ~10%.

Well, MessageFormat 2 is a game-changer. We can easily support complex grammars like Arabic, where the plural rule is zero, one, two, few, many and other.

Thanks to the great work by localizers, Sveltia CMS is now available in: Arabic Bulgarian Catalan Chinese (Simplified) Croatian Dutch English (Canada) English (UK) English (US) Finnish French Greek Japanese Korean Polish Portuguese (Brazil) Portuguese (Portugal) Russian Turkish Ukrainian

Market consolidation continues in the #Jamstack framework sector. The combined market share of #Astro and vanilla #JavaScript among the featured @sveltiacms.app users now exceeds 50%. The top four, including #Eleventy and #Hugo, account for 75%.

GitHub Sponsors is awful. Started on May 19, and I still haven’t received any funds. What’s the point of forcing a 90-day probation period on long-time active users? 🤬

$100 million+ has now been invested in open source maintainers and projects through GitHub Sponsors. 🎉 Nearly 70,000 maintainers and orgs are supported by more than 280,000 sponsors, from individual devs to Fortune 500 companies. Thank you to everyone helping make open source more sustainable. 💚

In July, we added over 100 examples to our showcase to highlight how quickly the Sveltia CMS community is growing 🚀 Volunteers have started working on localization to reach more people 🌎 We are impressed by what’s happening! 🥳

Svelte’s uneven releases continue. v5.56.5 was shipped 4 weeks after v5.56.4 and contains 10 bug fixes, some of which could have been released earlier. Meanwhile, v5.56.7 was released with only one one seemingly unimportant patch change. They really have no release strategy.

Overall, I think the Svelte team is doing a fantastic job, but delaying bug fixes could lead to a degraded DX, as I argued the other day. The lack of a release strategy undermines their efforts to build a great framework.

If you post something on the job-postings channel on Svelte Discord and it gets deleted straight away, I’m the one who deleted it. Don’t post stupid hire-me comments there.

@sveltiacms.app does a weird thing: It’s written in Svelte, but it supports React-based plugins that mount Svelte components. It’s a framework sandwich! This unique architecture ensures compatibility with Netlify/Decap CMS. 🥪

Looks like the future of Ripple is uncertain, as the maintainer has started a React-like framework called Octane. So @sveltiacms.app has to stick with Svelte for now, but I’ll consider other frameworks at some point.

Next.js, Nuxt and now Svelte. While I’m not a big fan of conspiracy theories and I understand that different teams maintain these frameworks, I feel that it’s Vercel that is making the web inaccessible.

As expected, Hugo is now in 4th place in the framework ranking. I wouldn’t be surprised if vanilla JS overtakes Eleventy as well.

I monitor a bunch of projects on GitHub to develop @sveltiacms.app showcase, but a lot of them never get completed. The failure rate? Maybe 50%. Thanks to AI, it’s never been easier to start new projects, but finishing them is still a big challenge especially for non-tech users.

I’m continuing to discover @11ty.dev sites using @sveltiacms.app! Here’s the current ranking from our showcase: 🥇 Astro: 93 (+3 from last week) 🥈 Eleventy: 42 (+4) 🥉 Hugo: 37 (+1) (Vanilla JS: 32) (+4) Jekyll: 22 (+2) Next.js: 18 (+2) Vanilla JS may soon replace Hugo in third place.

Astro is a great framework, but monopolies are never good for the market. I know that because I used to work in the browser industry. It’s great to see Eleventy staying strong.

Marketer’s note: Your showcase will be a powerful tool if it can provide compelling evidence of how many users have switched from other products to yours. I actually spend an hour every day researching to create this industry-leading showcase 😎
