The newest “innovation” in authentic, humane people management. Escalating the amount of stress inducing, mentally taxing, interruptions laden, multitasking - then dangling a guilt free exit. You’re not fired, you’re escaping a toxic environment. www.wsj.com/business/mic...

Yes yes yes! So many yesses!

I am once again begging, praying, weeping for lists of written instructions rather than videos. I do not want to watch your two minute video in the hope of catching the two seconds where you whizz past what goddamn menu the thing is under. Write. It. Down.

“I will NOT sacrifice the Oxford comma. We've made too many compromises already; too many retreats. They assimilate the em dash and we fall back. They capture ‘not just X but y’ and we fall back. Not again. The line must be drawn here! This far, no further!”

Anyone have alternatives to The New Stack? I’ve about had it with the posts becoming click bait and filler content but the final straw has been the links going to the wrong content. Better options?

So here’s the problem: if you compensate someone for 72 hrs/wk, then absolutely expect 72 hrs/wk. The problem is there’s a growing expectation by employers to just work more and not get an increase in pay. And worse - it’s rural wages for work in Silicon Valley. fortune.com/2025/09/25/e...

Having just traveled to London, I made an interesting observation: the BBC news app shows/headlines for more British news when I’m in England, while flooding me with predominantly US news when I’m home.

1 of the worst outcomes of the UK and US sharing language is UK institutions (BBC/Guardian), celebrities etc realise that the US is the big market for them and so position themselves accordingly. As a result the BBC and Guardian and other become obsessed with the tawdry domestic politics of the US

Which totally defeats the point of me reading the BBC news: I am looking for international news which doesn’t get much, if any, air time in the US. I don’t need the BBC’s echo chamber version of the US’s mass media outlets.

#CiscoGSX is this week but, new this year, is #TechElevate - where #CiscoSE are getting two days of more technical training, specialized training. Kick off session with panel discussion of product leaders.

Well said. I wish the ones that need to read this are actually paying attention instead of counting options.

Don’t Let AI Make You Circuit City I have a little confession. Sometimes I like to go into Best Buy and just listen. I pretend to be shopping or modem bearings or a left handed torque wrench. What I'm really doing is hearing how people sell computers. I remember when 8x CD burners were all the…

This era of news and politics is all about shock and awe and outrage. If you don’t actually read the source material for that news, you are likely misinformed. For those who can’t be bothered with reading two whole pages, there’s an FAQ. www.gfoa.org/federal-fund... #YesThereIsGovtWasteVirginia

Like the restoration of Internet connectivity, so returns the outrage of government abuses of power. (… for clarity, just the outrage as the abuses have always been there …)

Pinned message: I lurk here and just try to keep up with friends. Don’t expect earth shattering content or posts as (a) I don’t have much time, (b) X/Twitter/BlueSky are horrible media in which to do so, and (c) you aren’t really interested in dialogue anyways, just reinforcing opinions.

I wonder if we can get CiscoLive over here and really stress test the system twice a year? (Yes, I know there are 3 but they are dead to me until I get an invite to speak there)

While it’s certainly not perfect, there are definitely some things #Cisco gets right. The #DayForMe company wide provides all the air cover to unplug and recharge.

You are up to date.
