Behold Greyhawk, one of my illustrations for the 2024 Dungeon Master's Guide! Perhaps the piece I'm proudest of from the past year. I was able to take this one about 70% of the way to finish in acrylics, a major milestone for me.

I think it's beautiful when art effects people so deeply they'll go to these lengths to try to save a particular project, I just wish we had any kind of organized body for creative workers across industries that could funnel this energy into actually supporting the people who created the art

I spotted a callback to my Belligerent in the most recent MTG set, which was pretty cool! What I love most about this piece, other than the obvious reference to my childhood Lego pirate ship, is the metaphor for the creative process. "The Belligerent" MTG: Lost Caverns of Ixalan AD: Michael Thomas

I'm getting some dental work done today, which always puts me in mind of this piece I digitally painted for Numenera ('Ever Weeping Mountain' 2019 or so). Wish me luck!

I'll be back in LA next week! I'm looking forward to seeing lots of folks and then hitting up the Lucas Museum after my office hours are finished each evening. :-D

Artist! Quote with the artwork you cannot explain! Sometimes you just go with the flow. I was allowed to do some very abstract world-building for a client recently and this was the fruit!

Prepping some D&D paintings to send to the buyer. I'll miss these ones!

Godless Shrine, signed and altered by me! Go check out this and other goodies for charity!

It's so good to be back home for the next month or so! Nearby Planet MTG Unfinity AD: “I challenge anyone to cram seven different MTG landtypes into one illustration as well as you've done here. And you can quote me on that.” —the legendary Dawn Murin

I'm working on some cool things to bring to MagicCon Atlanta in a month and a half or so: see below. Yes, finally more expanded art from my very first set for MTG! I'm still working on Breeding Pool, but Fabled Passage and Stomping Ground should be ready as playmats by then.

I finish my busiest three weeks of the year ends with Rose City Comic Con in Portland! Day 1 begins... come say hi at booth 1909!

One of the highlights of any con is dinner with my art pals! It's the perfect time to catch up with friends and make new ones as well. @dragoncon.org was no exception! It was a blast hanging out with y'all, and looking forward to @ixarts.bsky.social next month!

Ahh, after one day at home, now I'm off to DragonCon! Can't wait to see so many friends there. I've also got a side quest to see some very iconic art while I'm in the area--can't wait!

My work is hanging up at LA Con V this weekend in Anaheim. Go check it out!

More painting on a personal piece!

Excited to announce my art for the cover of Plott Hound magazine, issue 6! If you enjoy SFF animal-focused tales, they've got you covered.

Fun little AP painting on a foil Ancient Tomb! Ok, lil guy, time to scamper off to your new home!

As promised the full art for 'Along the Crooked Way', for MTG Hobbit. AD: Cassie Murphy I wanted to capture a still moment, high in the passes of the Misty Mountains at night, a pause before the violence to come. Also, I really liked the fractured stone the orc band stands on.

Chao, Chile! You were delicious, fascinating, and oh so hospitable!

"Where there's a whip, *whooopssh* there's a [crooked] way!" For my one card in The Hobbit set in MTG, I met some nasty goblinses and orcs high in the Misty Mountains one night and captured this still moment before bad things befell. AD: Cassie Murphy

Hey all my GenCon-bound friends, I'm missing you! I'm about to embark on my free trip to Chile instead. 😇 Portland > Atlanta > Santiago, 13 hours in flight. I hope we all have safe travels and excellent shows this week!

I haven't been able to share any rough sketches in a while, but this project isn't covered by a WotC NDA, so here we go! A lovely author client is letting me go hog wild with something that mostly just needs to sit between genres vibe-wise, and I'm having fun. :-)

Hi #PortfolioDay ! I’m Majikarpette and I like designing and illustrating things that are macabre and funny. Taking things slow this year, but if I’m drawn to your project, I’m glad to be of assistance! majikarpette.art

Well, well, it's #portfolioday already? I just got back home from a trip, so I'm out of the loop. However, if you like fantastical landscapes, then I got some for you! I'm mostly working for MTG and D&D these days.

My son wanted to join me this weekend in Tacoma!

"Grim Captain's Locker" Lost Caverns of Ixalan, MTG. A trove of dark magics lost (then found?) on a freshwater riverbed.

Miscon begins! Here's my humble display. They're already spoiling us artists and other guests, and a good time is being had by all. :)

I'll be having a great time in Missoula this weekend as Artist Guest of Honor at Miscon 40! How much trouble can the rented house full of artists get into? We're about to find out, Todd Lockwood, Jeff Sturgeon. ;-)

It's been a year since I got to reveal this crazy piece! "Stomping Ground" MTG, Edge of Eternities

I'm excited to once again be exhibiting at Dragonsteel Nexus, late this year! (Yeah, okay, I've so many convention announcements to share, lately. I swear I'm still making art... just lots of stuff under NDA.)

I'm slated to be the first overseas guest artist for Cardfest in Santiago, Chile! Sometimes things work out in unpredictable ways. I was bummed not to be part of Gen Con this year after so many years exhibiting, but it turns out that week I'll visit South America for the first time instead!

New original art is rising up from the depths ~ and available to collect as add-ons in my latest crowdfunding campaign! Find your Wild Shape at: www.kickstarter.com/projects/aar... #dnd #druid #dnd2024 #dnd55e

As I leave one con behind (had my best Denver Fan Expo yet), I head to another in a few days (Lilac City Comic Con), and I look forward to being Artist Guest of Honor at another at the end of the month at Miscon in Missoula, Montana!

Met my very first Regent cosplay! Necrobinder when?

Here's the serious bit for anyone who'd rather skip the 4000 words of jokes

Denver FanExpo begins in a few minutes! Come say hi at booth AP1401!

I'll be exhibiting at Denver FanExpo this weekend, and I'm trying something different... a Tolkien-themed stamp rally! Come say hi if you're at the show. :-)

Just a few of my favorite artist proof paintings in acrylic! As I slog through a particularly difficult painting I can't yet share, I have to remind myself of the wins.

Successfully ran my first session as a dungeon master! Starting their adventures in Shadowdale with MY art was pretty cool (hey, just following instructions from the book, haha). I think the Littlest Art Director is hooked!
