📢 New preprint! 📖 Tl;dr - Too much talk of disobedience in the literature, hardly any of direct action. We define it, explain how it works, and show what difference it makes to how we understand social movements. Coming soon to an AJPS near you: philpapers.org/rec/RAETLO-4

Imagine a normal person, just, like, in your head right now - imagine a normal person, hanging out, being normal. Now, boom, ask yourself - are they Italian? They weren't, were they. Because you don't think Italian people are normal. Racist.

I hate reality, because I don't care about international criminal law, I don't want to care about international criminal law, but also I need to make something of the fact that ICC judges are under sanctions and ICJ judges are not, and this presses hard against my worldview, and I have that.

Heartened to see that my university is ending its contract with Turnitin before the next academic year, because Turnitin is going to use student submissions to train AI models. Institutions can and should resist this stuff!

'In "Citizen Marx," @brunoleipold.com presents Karl Marx as a critical supporter of democratic politics. Reviewer Timm Graßmann finds the republican interpretation convincing, but feels it lacks an engagement with Marx's staunch anti-imperialism:'

"Labour politicians are not terminally stupid. It should be puzzling, therefore, that so many of them were happy to accede to the government’s ‘hippie-punching’ strategy, in which socially liberal, left-wing voters – the core of their support – have been repeatedly castigated and rejected."

A double Marx day celebration (yesterday)! Highly recommend reading Jan's book that I was lucky enough to read in draft

It's Karl Marx's Birthday today (He'd be 208). And by a happy coincidence, it's also the publication day of my book, Flourishing Together Karl Marx's Vision of the Good Society. academic.oup.com/book/62523

The switch to in-person exams as a response to LLMs is apparently now being met with the countermove of using smart glasses to cheat on the exams. I'm eligible for early retirement in four days, and not a moment too soon.
