yes, if you explicitly tell an agent to communicate outside its virtual machine and turn off all the guard rails, it will use cpu cache timing differences to do so. It's a technique that has been demonstrated and its in the training set. openai.com/index/securi... If you are really worried...

I paid for this book by PayID. Bookseller tells me to use the title of the book as the reference code. Commonwealth Bank app says 'words used in description and reference are unacceptable. Please use non-offensive language'. Go figure.

If you make HTTPS requests or have other TLS clients and care about MITM attacks, you need to update today. If you run Go: go get go@1.27.3 If you run Homebrew: brew update brew install ca-certificates If you run Linux, maybe stay off the internet for now.

Finished episode 1 of Visionquest. I have strong reasons to believe some of Ultron's lines and the banter between Jarvis and Vision are written by AI and I can't judge if that's a genius move or not (other writing seem to be human)

I love that she has Arbok tattoo'd on her arm... there's a sentimentality after she released it.

prepare for trouble, and make it double

Oops This was meant to be posted when I started the stream. The stream is now over on the account of keyboard issues (firmware fritz)

there's no such thing as "cheating" or "reward hacking", to the process of reinforcement learning. RL doesn't care if the reward function captures what we intend for it to capture. to RL there is only the reward function as it actually exists

A first (short & compute-constrained) research project after leaving Google DeepMind: an LSTM-style tied transformer with one shared core KV cache The main question is how to train for the cache histories that the model produces recursively at inference

The paper we just finished started from an idea ~1 year ago. "USING AI, you can go from idea to paper much faster" I'm told. In that year a lot else happened, professionally and privately. But still we found some time to work on the paper. #MathSky

One must wonder if Anna Kornbluh was being too generous with her academic and ultimately neutral use of the word "immediacy". The way these bigcorps and frontier labs are going, it seems the intent is more dismediation leading to a dismediacy presented as immediacy

This is not a subtweet at an exec who just put the question I asked into an AI chatbot and repeat the nonsensical answer back at me verbatim. Not at all.

TIL.

Remember the random dude who got 49020939 articles of uncritical media coverage in the space of two days because he quit anthropic based on his fears of existential AI risk? Yeah..........he's a climate denier. So is the whole AI industry. www.crikey.com.au/2026/09/22/a...

The stream is ended. 1462 words written. #writing #scifiwriting #scifi I had a grand plan of confusing the readers on purpose but I think I ended up confusing myself towards the end and I don't think I can untangle it quite so quickly.

Stream is ended. 960 words. Not too shabby. #writing #scifi #scifiwriting . Some interesting discussions about what text editor I use and whether I am published (answer, no. Nobody seems to like my words... but that's OK).

Waiting at a reception. A guy whose lastname is "Whiteman" just got called. Old dude. But this makes me wanna write a character called Tanner Whiteman. Why? For the lulz. #writing

Related to my previous post about people using GenAI/LLMs for everything, regardless of whether they should, whether it makes sense, and whether what they are doing with it even is something that is worth doing in the first place.

I quite enjoyed the first two episodes of Bookish. The missus, who missed it asked for my summary: it's Sherlock in the 1940s. And this time Mark Gatiss has a beard.
