A room full of badass women trying to build housing? Count me in. Loved joining BIA’s Women’s Leadership Conf. to talk about being a mom in the Legislature & the work ahead to build more homes for Californians. Great conversation about what it takes to lead through challenges & keep showing up.

People who don't take public transportation will also suffer if public transportation goes away.

Bay Area residents take 1M+ trips every weekday on our four largest transit systems — to get to work, school & everywhere in between. We can’t let devastating cuts take that away. I’m voting YES on the Regional Transit Measure to keep our region moving. www.sfgate.com/news/bayarea...

Transit is an affordability issue, too. We’re working to build more housing near jobs and transit — but that only works if the trains and buses are actually running.

We can protect essential service and demand accountability for public dollars. A more affordable, connected Bay Area needs both more housing and strong public transit. Let’s keep moving forward.

Without new funding, BART, AC Transit, Muni and Caltrain face devastating cuts as soon as 2027. That means longer commutes, fewer options for working families, and more traffic for everyone.

Parents shouldn’t have to take on Big Tech alone to keep their kids safe online. Thanks to @punchbowlnews.bsky.social and Diego Munhoz for yesterday’s conversation in Sacramento about putting kids’ well-being first—and making sure our laws keep up with the technology shaping their lives.

California helped build the tech economy. Let’s build what comes next. Fired up to join today’s Quantum California convening at UCLA. With my AB 940 now law, we’re working to keep quantum innovation here — & make sure the jobs and opportunities that come with it stay here, too.

More townhomes. More paths to homeownership. Great to join Assemblymember Sharon Quirk-Silva at the New California Coalition convening yesterday to talk AB 1751 — and how it will help get more townhomes built across California.

We can make CA a place people can afford to stay. But we have to build. That’s why I’m supporting Props 1 & 37 — starting w/the housing bond I fought for: Prop 1 provides $11.25B for affordable homes for seniors, veterans, students & working families. calmatters.org/housing/home...

Saving for a down payment while paying California rent? The math is brutal. Prop 37 helps buyers over that hurdle, tying down-payment assistance to newly built homes — encouraging more construction, too. More homes. More homeowners. Yes on 1 & 37. calmatters.org/politics/202...

We tend to talk about poverty in terms of what people earn. We need to talk more about the cost of keeping a roof over their heads. This research reinforces it: reducing housing costs could lift millions out of poverty. Any serious affordability agenda must start there. www.pew.org/en/research-...

pew.orgThe Housing Shortage Is a Major Driver of PovertyHousing costs are usually the largest item in a household’s budget and can determine a family’s financial stability.

Well, look at that. California is seeing a big increase in multifamily housing permits. We passed historic CEQA reforms w/AB 130 to make it easier to build housing & now we’re seeing momentum. There’s still lots of work to do, but this is an encouraging sign. www.ocregister.com/2026/10/08/c...

Every year that we delay solutions like AB 1903 is another year families are priced out of the communities they call home. But I'm not giving up. We built a strong foundation of support for this reform, and I intend to come back fighting for it next year.

Because that's what this work is about: delivering results, being honest about the setbacks, and refusing to accept that the status quo is good enough. The 2026 session may be over, but the work isn't. I'm already looking ahead to 2027. Thank you for being part of it.

I also want to be upfront about what we didn't get done. One of my biggest priorities this year was AB 1903, a bill to help jumpstart condo construction and put homeownership back within reach for more working families.

Unfortunately, AB 1903 did not pass this year. You can read my thread explaining why here: bsky.app/profile/buff...

I am incredibly disappointed & frustrated that AB 1903, my bill to reform construction defect liability, just died in the Senate. Critical components were amended out Friday & it was ultimately held by the Senate late last night — missing the midnight deadline for concurrence.

Exciting things are happening in quantum computing, & they’re happening right here in California. Thank you @psiquantum.bsky.social for today’s tour, and for the look at what’s ahead. We need to keep investing in the people & ideas that will keep California at the forefront of this field.

This work is essential to a healthy democracy. It’s about keeping journalists at work asking hard questions, holding people like me accountable, telling stories that would otherwise go untold. Thank you @governor.ca.gov for recognizing what’s at stake & signing AB 2222 into law.

I introduced the Journalism Preservation Act in 2023, which evolved into an innovative partnership w/ @CAGoBiz awarding grants to news orgs across the state, & is amplified by Berkeley’s groundbereaking journalism fellowship program which continues to grow & evolve each year.

Local news is essential to a healthy democracy — & there’s no single fix for the crisis it’s facing. I am deeply honored to receive the endorsement of California State Assemblymember @buffywicks.bsky.social As a dedicated champion for housing, Assemblymember Wicks continues to lead the charge on making housing more abundant and affordable across our state. Grateful for her leadership 🙏

There’s so much East Bay history inside the Oakland Museum of California (OMCA). Loved getting a tour yesterday of Mildred Howard: Poetics of Memory — celebrating a Berkeley-raised artist whose work explores family, history, identity and home.

Also excited for BeHere / 1942, opening 9/17, which examines the forced removal of Japanese Americans during WWII through an immersive lens. I wrote my senior thesis on their incarceration, so this one is especially close to my heart. Thanks Lori Fogarty for showing us around!

Gloria taught generations of women that telling the truth about our own lives could itself be an act of political change — and I’m one of many deeply influenced & inspired by this. Her courage made it easier for us to speak up, take up space & fight for the lives we deserve. RIP ❤️

And ultimately I had a bill Friday morning that I truly believe would have unlocked condo construction to serve our working class families desperate for homeownership opportunities.

So while I’m upset about this outcome, I’m inspired by those pushing for change: big city mayors, cities, YIMBYs, labor, business, enviros & those who build homes at all levels of affordability. With this incredible diverse coalition, I have no doubt we can bring back something even stronger.

Our job as legislators is to solve problems, and sometimes that means doing hard things. This is one of those things. This issue has been a third rail. Structural change is necessary.

We put hundreds of hours, months of negotiations, and endless stakeholders engagement and coalition building. I know more about water intrusion and moisture barriers than I ever thought I would.
