Ex-boss filed a $12 theft charge against an ex-employee because she got a restraining order in response to his creepy behavior. Charge was never prosecuted, but it gave ICE an excuse to arrest and detain her. Congratulations to the 58 Democrats who voted for the Laken Riley Act. You own this.

November 2026 California Ballot endorsements! From someone who sat through a decade-plus of endorsement meetings and learned a LOT about why our crazy ballot looks the way it does. A few frameworks I use as a voter are: 1) If you have ANY doubt about a proposition, vote no.

They bind us legally and financially and can have all kinds of terrible knock-on effects if they aren't written right. 2) We wouldn't have to vote on a lot of this crap if we could repeal Prop. 13! 3) While thinking about #2, I vote for the world we have right now as opposed to a hypothetical one.

Online leftism is a powerful system of self-surveillance that effectively captures & counters righteous anger. For people thinking, what's the big deal about the 4% cut in global oil production coming next week, that's the scale of the 1973 OPEC crisis and 1979 Iran war oil crisis. Each followed by a major recession. Prices and supply are global. And global oil stocks are already gone. It's a calamity. 1/

ICE just spent $1.5 BILLION to purchase two massive prisons in California it was already using for detention, in an effort to avoid oversight from the state, which has been pressuring the private prison company that owned them. CoreCivic will continue operating the facilities.

Everyone’s enjoying the excommunication drama but there are also lessons for pro-democracy political actors. Decades of accommodating and appeasing this sect did not work and only emboldened them. You have to go whole hog. When you have power, break the back of the reactionaries. Shut them out

if you have feelings about SCOTUS after today, and after the last week, and after the last months and years, remember that at least you can vote for state supreme courts in many places this year, and those matter a ton too my state-by-state guide to every state supreme court contest:

boltsmag.orgYour State-by-State Guide to the 2026 Supreme Court Elections - BoltsAbortion, redistricting, and ballot access remain heated issues as voters face dozens of supreme court races across 32 states this year.

Even moreso than he LIKES the Fed, Roberts acknowledges the importance of the Fed to his top interest group, which is corporate interests. Same with mail-in voting: It would hurt Republican voters most, and Roberts needs them. All "good" opinions from him are best for his preferred Americans.

Ugh. Supreme Court rules in Slaughter, 6-3 that Trump can fire people from the FTC. But in Cook, Court rules 5-4 that Trump cannot fire everybody from the Fed. Roberts writes both majority opinions There's no real difference between the FTC and the FED other than Roberts likes the Fed.

this is simply no longer a winning electoral strategy anywhere — not in PA, not in NYC, not in the USA, not on earth. the people of the planet are rejecting the us-israeli war machine. the only way this politics can survive in democracies is by subverting the will of voters and democracy itself.

good to see this. Musk is clearly getting visibly angry at the rising awareness of how many hundreds of thousands of people his DOGE wilding spree has already killed, millions more if this stays in place into the future. Up last night. Bless this family for this unbelievable loss over a disputed allegation of diaper theft. And bless the detailed and very human coverage by the @mississippifreepress.org reporting team. THIS is what we mean by people-centered journalism. It’s not less hard-hitting, it’s more.
