I like how in the last ep of Slow Horses, a chopper lands by a secluded beach house, unleashing armed MI6 guys to secure it and inside, an old man with an exploded kneecap watches them approach a while, through a glass wall, then goes "I should go," and limps out of the room and escapes (off screen)

even abstracted into hypothetical maths this doesn't make any sense. picking the lesser evil still makes things more evil, just by a lesser amount

"Online Rent-a-Sage" Bret Devereaux@bretdevereaux.bsky.social

It is, fundamentally, an exercise of choosing the lesser evil, over and over and over again, so that the total amount of evil in the system decreases over time. And you must keep doing it, because - since evil is easy - good is easily reversed.

Used to have to shove these giant 5” discs into a machine to watch what I paid for in broadcast quality, but now I can just press a button to conveniently watch it in random quality and sometimes it’s taken away while I continue paying indefinitely... am I doing this right?

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

ME: Resolve, do not render at max resolution. I command you, render at this specific resolution that I have set in the resolution dropdown. RESOLVE: Sure thing, rendering at the resolution set in the dropdown, which I have reset back to max resolution for you, you're welcome.

It’s simple: rotate the object, then it doesn’t work, so rotate the mesh, then go “dammit” and rotate the object back and rotate the mesh on a different axis than the one that made sense. Works every time.

To play John Nash in ‘A Beautiful Mind’ (2001), Russell Crowe actually went under the knife to make his brain extremely physically beautiful. The brain later participated in cycle 11 of America’s Next Top Model but was eliminated early.

“Terminator 2: Judgment Day” (1991) was entirely improvised. The director James Cameron liked it so much he kept the movie in the movie.

POV: you're about to record 45 dialogue corrections, color-coded by which mic to use to match the original. You know 95% of viewers won't care about the wording or spot edits if you just use 1 mic. The other 5% will spot and call out every edit no matter what lengths you go to to make them seamless.

lol, that post by that guy is like “Have you heard? Everybody who’s anybody is back on X! I was skeptical, but it’s actually great again for the following list of very normal reasons. In conclusion, everyone’s there already so please please please everyone come back…on there. Onto the platform X.”

Did You Know: the entirety of KaBLam! is on Archive - archive.org/details/kabl... It's really silly and inventive, and fun to show to current-time little human kids and stuff, imo.

Huh. Reminds me of "Clockman" in a way. For me it was a regular segment on a kid's variety show called "KaBlam!" specifically, "Promethius and Bob". It was a claymation segment about an alien teaching a caveman to be civilized, aired on Nickelodeon in the mid to late 90s.

Something AI is responsible for that doesn't get enough talk: How, when it scrapes a website to illegally steal everything on it, it uses up a ton of its bandwidth allotment, crashing it or racking up massive fees for site owners.

Edd Coates | Game UI Database@eddcoates.bsky.social

Yet again, the Game UI Database is being scraped to the point that it's getting knocked offline. Even Cloudflare's "I'm under attack" mode isn't working. I just wanted to create a resource for real designers. I'm getting so fucking sick of this.

People are saying "Tom Cruise in old man makeup" but that character doesn't read older than 64, Tom's actual age. No I am not jealous as I steadily disintegrate into a wrinkled, spotted sack of failing organs, decades his junior.

For boring reasons my back bumper used to have a tiny, beat-up sticker that just said "film." One time a car followed us for many blocks, all the way home. It was an older guy and he wanted to pitch me his screenplay. We don't live in LA. He didn't know who I am at all. It was just the sticker.

🤡 Schmitt beclowns himself 🤡 Schmitt concocted an elaborate conspiracy theory that Smith traveled to Atl for a Hawks game and to collude with Fani Willis, & flashed his "evidence" before accusing Smith of perjury. There's just one problem -- his facts were totally wrong. Here's the whole sequence:

~2'x2' panel for $40, aim a red spotlight w/a Roscolux 26 red gel through it... dawg, you're on a Klingon bridge.

KURSGESAGT VOICE: Now, we’re just speculating here and there’s no real way to project this far into the future, but imagine yourself personally becoming a technological ultra super god with the power to tame every atom of the universe into a state of perpetually orgasmic hyper-abundance…

Update: it wasn't too bad! In most shots, the tiny shape change didn't make a difference and any native AE masks stretched with the footage. There was just one part where I had to rebuild a patchwork of photoshop stills over again, but it got refined a li'l in the process. Back on track.

Swapping a video (that you've been zooming into, rotoscoping and animating various pixel-peeping graphics around in hundreds of shots) for a higher quality version you just found - $0 Realizing the version you'd been working with was actually squashed vertically by 4 pixels - priceless

This would also be awesome as a physical Lunar Lander game.

The Facial Expressions of Tethys by artist Julius von Bismarck. A suspended high-sea buoy that moves in real time. Sensors on a twin buoy out in the Atlantic Ocean send live satellite data to motors inside the museum. This makes the indoor buoy copy the exact, real-time movements of the ocean waves.
