Looking for a genuinely terrifying folk horror novel or true crime recommendation. Not something that gets way out over its skis narratively speaking, just something that makes you want to sleep with the lights on.

"The human should check AI's work, since AI is wrong 70% of the time." Look, there are plenty of valid criticisms of this technology, but this is utterly unmoored from reality. So is insisting that the frontier labs could make the models better but aren't interested in doing so.

🚨 LiteLLM, a Python package for connecting to AI model providers with 92M+ monthly downloads, has been compromised. Version 1.107.0 ships credential-stealing malware through PyPI wheels and Docker images, targeting cloud credentials, developer secrets, and AI tools.

I have an extra ticket for BSidesNYC this Sunday which I'm not going to be able to use. Would anyone be interested in it? Preference given to students or new grads who are interested in cybersecurity, or anyone in the first five years of an IT/cybersecurity career.

Deceptive Republican Party ads are flooding the airwaves in California promoting prop 39, the Trojan Horse Voter ID bill that will let the GOP make voting harder, riskier, and more expensive . VOTE NO ON 39. IT’S A TRICK.

Aha! moment sparked by this thread: recent trends have deliberately pushed people away from general-purpose computing towards a very narrow set of walled gardens, and there are ecosystem benefits that are reinforcing once you settle into your garden. The ability to use an LLM...

in other words, AI may paradoxically send us back to the 90s.

...to create basically whatever, basically for free, feels like it has the potential to make those garden walls irrelevant. We're in the 1980s passionate hobbyist phase of AI-generated software today.

This is sexual violence as a form of terrorism. It is political violence and it is chilling and horrific, and AOC was absolutely right to be terrified that the goons (now pardoned) laying siege to the capital would rape her if they found her. Small changes won't fix this. FLIP THE TABLE NOW

One of our dogs always runs over to the food bin and gives it a poke with her snoot at the first sign that I'm going to feed them, like I might have developed acute memory loss since the last time they were fed and forgotten where the kibble lives.

Wasn't able to get a picture of it, but someone was driving a 1920s touring car through our neighborhood. Black, flared fenders, 12 or 16 cylinders under the stretched hood, separate driver's compartment from a 2-bench passenger compartment. Perfect for assassinating an archduke in...

Another intense memory from that trip: driving during whirling snow flurries and seeing acres of WW2-era landing craft in a junk-/scrap-/boneyard right off the highway just outside of Richmond.

This memory brought to you by my parents indulging me on our drive back from Orlando, FL to Worcester, MA and remembering the response my very Yankee dad got in Richmond, VA when he asked a parking lot attendant about how to get to the [Edgar Allan] Poe House.

Weirdly nostalgic turn of events, remembering renting this place for a vacation along with another family from The Boy's preschool. It was nestled in a ravine along Arch Cape Creek, by a trailhead into Oswald West State Park.

Carter Wickstrom@carterwickstrom.bsky.social

yeah. we have some really fond memories of vacationing by the now-collapsed arch just south of Cannon Beach - we had rented a place that was literally just barely to the west of the highway at the base of the Arch Cape tunnel where Arch Cape Creek flows into the Pacific.

It was an eventful week: The Boy fell out of a tree house at the rental and broke his arm a week before kindergarten was supposed to start, we nearly got investigated for child abuse by the hospital in Cannon Beach because of the nature of the break...

Trump and Ronny Jackson have a chuckle about the botched execution in Tennessee: "The medication didn't exactly work. He [Jackson] would answer it better than anybody. How does that happen? It shouldn't be very difficult."
