Excited to share that I’ve been promoted to Director of Engineering at HubSpot! I had no idea how impactful my decision to join HubSpot would be when I was looking for jobs as a college senior. These past 10 years have been a wild ride and I’m looking forward to taking this next step.

I was trying to understand how this was a joke about the Red Sox owner for too long

john henry - verb, transitive: to do something by hand that a machine can already do better, esp. for your own self respect. “I john henried the code for old times sake to see if I still could.”

Is anyone talking about what the future of product teams look like with generative AI? As I'm getting back to work after my sabbatical its clear to me that we need to change the way product teams work. Increased engineering velocity and output mean more pressure on PM and UX.

Most of the discussions I'm finding so far are about getting engineers to shift their mental model or working patterns, but that obvious 2nd order effect is that teams are going to need to plan faster

A year ago, I thought LLMs were kind of neat but not that useful. I saw the code autocomplete and thought, meh. Last summer just flipped. I never ever thought I would see automated code generation like we see now. I know there’s baggage but you need to know the coders are being real about this

Who is going to be on call for these apps? Who is going to make sure it integrates with other applications? Home built software is going to be the new complicated Excel sheet

Dare Obasanjo@carnage4life.bsky.social

Lots of product teams are being tempted to save costs by vibe coding a replacement to some SaaS app. Managers on such teams need to ask two questions: what will it cost to maintain and who will train people on the tool? Someone will make a lot of money solving the proliferation of vibe coded apps.

This is the way, make “ok, abolish only ICE” the moderate position.

Truthout@truthout.org

Amid growing calls for the abolition of ICE, Rep. Delia Ramirez is calling for the entire DHS to be dismantled. Highlighting how much experience the officers who killed Renee Good and Alex Pretti had, Ramirez said, “DHS was built to violate our rights and has been empowered to act with impunity.”

i have just gotten off a productive call with sauron where i laid out our requests - nazgul bodycams - morgul knife must remain sheathed unless suspect is determined to be carrying the one ring - shelob will be the new point of contact

One armed goon loses his shit at an observer who's backing up, and then several more armed goons tackle the observer to the ground, and then even more armed goons form a protective shield around the armed goons handcuffing the observer for hurting an armed goon's feelings. This can't be "reformed"

HOW IT WORKS IN MOVIES: 1. Government lies 2. Brave heroes release video showing the truth 3. Press says “the government is lying!” HOW IT APPARENTLY WORKS IN REAL LIFE 1. Brave heroes release video showing the truth 2. Government lies 3. Press says “Oh no, what now? So confusing! So hard!”

In an effort to be objective and neutral modern news organizations have completely lost the plot

The BBC coverage is absolutely terrible. It leads on "sharply contested narratives" It has a dramatic skew to the US government It has posted the video but has failed to report on what it shows: it shows the US govt account is untrue

I wonder what the angle here is for Databricks. Would they keep Neon's low touch business model or repurpose the technology?

Alex Konrad@alexrkonrad.bsky.social

Scoop: Databricks is in talks to buy Postgres startup Neon for about $1B, sources tell me @upstarts.bsky.social. The deal could go higher with employee retention. This news comes just days after we scooped that Datadog is buying startup Eppo for $220M. M+A for infra / data startups is heating up!

Testing GPT-4o-mini in the OpenAI playground and it seems not to respect my function schema, even in strict mode. If I do the same thing with GPT-4o it works fine. I feel like I'm missing something, but really can't wrap my head around this.

As someone who was critical of how Netflix handled the live stream of the boxing match over the weekend, this really made me change my tune. I didn't realize this was the largest live stream of its kind of all time.

Gergely Orosz@gergely.pragmaticengineer.com

It was very impressive, and for all understand, it was the largest-ever livestream running on internet infra (and not cable) If anyone at Netflix is open to talking about the details (w the Comms team involved ofc), do let me know!
