Dear friends: Pope Leo needs all our prayers, as he now faces treatment for lung cancer. Let me suggest that we ask Our Lady of Lourdes and St. Bernadette to intercede for him, as well as for his doctors, nurses and caregivers, so that he might be quickly restored to full health.

Today we celebrate and honor #IndigenousPeoplesDay. Today and every day, let us stand for and listen to those who have known this land the longest and work to repair the damages to our shared planet and our shared future. #EcoCatholic

Today, we finally enter the Season of Creation! 🌎🌱 And on this World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, Pope Leo reminds us that the work of creation care is also a work of peace, transforming what destroys life into what sustains it and moving from “violence to peace.”

Happy #SeasonofCreation! This year's theme is "Living Water," where every act of care for creation becomes part of a global stream of hope. 🌊🌎🙏 As we kick off this season of hope, prayer, and action for our common home, let us pray!

U.S. Catholic advocates are opposing efforts to put Big Oil above the law. "If the bill passes, it will give legal immunity to oil and gas companies … it will be easier for these corporations to operate however they want," said Kayla Jacobs of @catholicclimate.bsky.social.

As many of our skies are being blanketed in smoke from the Canadian wildfires, let us be reminded that the health of our planet and the health of our communities are inseparable. Poor air quality is a justice issue, and the effects of climate change are hurting the most vulnerable first and worst.

We pray for all those affected by these fires, especially those who have lost their homes, those working to contain the fires, and those breathing unhealthy air. May this moment, and the increasing frequency of smoke-filled skies, deepen our commitment to care for our common home and one another.

Interested in advocacy? All are welcome! Join our Encounter for Our Common Home July meeting - it will include a policy briefing and preparation/training for you to meet with your Members of Congress during the August recess to encourage them to care for our common home 🌎

In #MagnificaHumanitas, Pope Leo situates our moment of technological "advancement" against the backdrop of Catholic social teaching and the sanctity of both God's people and God's planet. Read more on the environmental themes in EarthBeat: www.ncronline.org/news/ai-ency... #EcoCatholic

ncronline.orgIn AI encyclical, Pope Leo warns of tech, data center threats to creationIn Magnifica Humanitas, Pope Leo said, "Technology has the power to heal, connect, educate and protect our common home; but it can also divide, exclude and generate new forms of injustice."

In #MagnificaHumanitas, Pope Leo offers a clear acknowledgement of the environmental costs of AI. And this reminder is urgent, as our technology use relies on vast amounts of energy, water, land, and infrastructure and its impacts are felt most by vulnerable communities & ecosystems.

What does social justice look like today? In #MagnificaHumanitas, Pope Leo gives us an idea. He also highlights the interconnected issues of migration, climate change, and human dignity to remind us that caring for our common home must also include care for those who are forced to leave theirs.

Happy Anniversary of #LaudatoSi'! 11 years ago Pope Francis called us to bold and urgent action on climate change. As we celebrate #Pentecost today, and prepare for Pope Leo's new encyclical #MagnificaHumanitas tomorrow, let us live up to our call as Catholics to care for the world & for each other.
