THREAD: I got laid off from NYMag/Vulture after 14 years. The family lost 75% of income + medical. Now mzs.press bookstore, once a side project. is do-or-die for Judith & I. I feel weird telling you this because others are doing much worse. But if you could like or share this, we'd be so grateful!
Greetings, new friends! You may know me as an author, a prolific Bluesky poster and 4th place finisher on So You Call That Dancing? But you might not know that my partner Judith (@mzpress) and I have an online arts bookstore that's growing every day. Full inventory here: mzs.press/EVERYTHING-W...

I'm unfortunately still looking for work I excel in the social, marketing, community, or customer support spheres, something where I get to work with people and make your company look good I have experience in tech, fandom, art, games, and medicine! www.linkedin.com/in/nate-ming...
Donor stem cells saved my husband's life. It's so easy to be listed on the registry - it's just a cheek swab with a cotton bud.
I’m looking for 100% Filipino people who are willing to submit a cheek swab test in hopes for a genetic match to my aunt, who is battling blood cancer. The registry for stem cells doesn’t have many Filipino people in it, and joining it could help many. Please share/reach out to me! bit.ly/4aiUIKQ

We can’t afford a $1M trailer slot 😔 But reposts on Bluesky cost $0 - and they really help tiny teams like ours ❤️ If cozy medieval creativity is your thing, here’s our Scriptorium trailer!
It now reportedly costs over $1M to buy a 3-minute trailer at #TheGameAwards Many nominated studios only get offered two tickets to attend (via Kotaku)
Not surprising but the reporting has been so frustrating and disappointing.
1/🧵 My friends in Hong Kong are furious about reports suggesting that bamboo scaffolding contributed to the massive fire there. One of them, a well-connected lobbyist, has even been messaging journalists to request corrections and has publicly called the coverage orientalist.

With sales for most creatives I know being down across the board, please feel free to post your links below (many people want to support marginalized creators and small businesses but simply do not know where or how to do that).
Just a reminder that right now is a fantastic time to take that monthly Disney plus cash and spend it on trans/bipoc/disabled creators and small businesses. Boycotting the bad things is fantastic, but using those funds to then support and uplift those who’ve been marginalized is even better.
Instead they focus on how it's the people who advocate for universal healthcare and basic human rights who are really blame.
What centrist libs can't seem to internalize is that the US contains a large, longstanding, well-funded political movement that *wants political violence and authoritarianism*. It does not need to be provoked in any way in order to pursue those goals.
I found this in a random Bluesky search for something completely different (ngl was chasing tea), it looks so good!

I really wish there were more resources like this to learn web/app development. It's often the admin-y, set up stuff or connecting bits (that gets left out) where learners get stuck. So much is so tacit or assumed obvious, when what we need to see is someone walk through the WHOLE process.

If you have a dog and it's summer 🥵
Going to keep posting this summer dog safety guide I made bc it’s getting extra hot in Midwest and elsewhere right now and also high humidity (dogs evaporate moisture from their respiratory tract by panting, high humidity makes it harder). Keep yourselves and your pets cool!! dogsummer.carrd.co

I rediscovered my local council library a couple of years ago when I started regularly reading fiction again (I am lucky to have university library access so non-fiction is well covered). It is so good and wish I had done it sooner!
i'm holding your hands, gently april 7 is the start of national library week. get your library card. write your library board. check out 10 books. use your library. do it.
This isn't a surprise but it's horribly depressing. Fine to waste billions of dollars and accelerate climate change so for a few days people can have plagiarised Ghibli profile pics. But let's not actually fund the few uses where AI is genuinely valuable and life saving. Screw this timeline.
