New discussion paper led by @hroggenkamp.bsky.social and @mvreiss.bsky.social published in Nature Human Behavior: "Improving computational reproducibility in the social sciences" doi.org/10.1038/s415...

Just an enormous cost to the US economy that is hard to communicate politically because intangible. But such utter lunacy. International scholars drawn to the US are part of what makes the sector great. It should continue
There will probably be far fewer foreign students on college campuses nationwide this fall following the Trump administration’s crackdown on international visas. A new report predicts international enrollment will decrease by 9.5 percent this fall.
"I've created a bluesky account for my solar panels" is about as bluesky as bluesky gets Hats off to you, @jamesomalley.co.uk
Good news! I now have solar panels on my house so I am going to be *even more* smug and insufferable than ever. And I've started by creating a Bluesky account for my solar, ripping off @edent.tel's idea, and even re-using his code to do it.
We want to hire a new, more techy AI person in the lab. Think mechanistic interpretability, fine tuning, large-scale evals that kind of thing. If you're interested and have Qs, lmk! interfolio.com/181820

I have a new paper out in @sociologicalsci.bsky.social w/ the briliant @aybukeatalay.bsky.social and @aliaelkattan.com We show that what we pay attention to online is a lot more politically diverse than what public engagement signals would suggest... sociologicalscience.com/articles-v13...

Comte Tete-de-poubelle is actually my old man's preferred cheese
fascinatingly* the French news is translating "Count Binface" as « le Compte Tête-de-Poubelle » rather than « Visage-de-Poubelle) which is, in fairness, more accurate (his entire head is a bin, not just his face) typical British media not asking the important underlying questions * ta gueule

Our department just announced a new Associate Professor position in quantitative research methodology 🇳🇴 One of the favorable qualifications is experience with open science practices + R/Python experience www.jobbnorge.no/en/available...
This is why I left UK HE... Few realize how low the standards are even in some prestigious universities. Culture and morale are shot. This is not a way to manage a potentially vital source of growth
Labour is not coming to bail out universities. The revealed preference of UUK and sector leaders is that cuts, redundancies and discipline collapse are a price worth paying, to preserve the ability to recruit unqualified students, without limit, to any course they wish.
