#covidinquiry found clear evidence that Matt Hancock lied when he said he'd thrown 'a protective ring' around the care sector in May 2020. Thousands died avoidable deaths, including my mum. Support us in holding him to account by signing and sharing this petition 👇 @cbffjuk.bsky.social

Last week's Covid Inquiry report into care was a devastating verdict on Matt Hancock's failures during the pandemic. His response: silence. He doesn't care. Show him we still do; sign our petition to hold him accountable. c.org/ysmQvTmpFt

👀 #covidinquiry report on social care published tomorrow. Impt thread: key issues 👇🏻 We can’t allow devastating consequences of under-funded, fragmented care sector to be repeated in next pandemic. Thousands died unnecessarily, including my mum. National Care Service now. @cbffjuk.bsky.social

The Covid Inquiry's report on social care will be published tomorrow at 12pm. For bereaved families, this is one of the most important modules of the Inquiry. Here are the key issues we want it to address. 🧵 1/10

And stronger national leadership and accountability: • A Secretary of State with operational responsibility for adult social care • A Commissioner for Older People and Ageing in England Social care must be given the priority and support it deserves. 7/10

The failures in social care during the pandemic were not inevitable. Bereaved families have fought for years to expose what went wrong. Now the Inquiry must deliver clear findings and strong recommendations to help ensure these tragedies are never repeated. 8/10

Discharging untested patients into care homes. Thousands died because hospital patients were discharged into care homes without a Covid test. The report must establish why this happened, who was responsible and how it will be prevented from happening again. 3/10

Visiting restrictions Countless people were denied contact with loved ones, including during their final days and hours. The report must recognise the terrible human cost of these restrictions and recommend stronger protections for visiting rights in future pandemics. 4/10

Justice is only served, when all are held to account. Wealth and position shouldn't shield people from that. That includes peers and politicians.

We welcome the conviction of a man who cashed in while our loved ones died. Yet so many rich and powerful individuals, like Michelle Mone, have faced no justice. We will not stop fighting until we hold everyone who profited at our loved ones' expense to account. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Bereaved families fought hard to get the Covid Inquiry set up -but what really matters is the changes it leads to That’s why we’ve today launched an Inquiry Recommendations Tracker - the 1st of its kind - to monitor & assess the implementation phase www.covidfamiliesforjustice.org/tracker-home 1/

We’ll use these ratings to pressure the Cabinet Office & others to make better progress & update our ratings as further action is taken - or not This is crucial to ensuring the country is better prepared for the next pandemic or national crisis & losing fewer lives 9/

We give the Govt’s response and action against each Recommendation one of four ratings: on track, moderate progress, little progress or rejected These will be updated as actions are taken, or promises are broken. That will mean keeping the tracker going for years, not months 7/

Bereaved families have spent years reliving the worst moments of their lives to help establish what went wrong during the pandemic. The recommendations are the opportunity to make sure the country is better prepared next time, and fewer lives are lost. 5/

We shouldn't have to act as a watchdog for public inquiry recommendations, which is why we’re supporting calls for a formal National Oversight Mechanism for public inquiries, to hold Govt accountable - but until that’s in place, we will do what we can ourselves. 6/

Once an inquiry has finished and the headlines move on, there is often little pressure on ministers and public bodies to follow through on what was promised. Recommendations get delayed, watered down or forgotten. But we cannot allow that to happen with the Covid Inquiry. 4/

The Tracker provides a comprehensive, independent & human assessment of the Inquiry’s outcomes, rating the Govt response to every recommendation. It will be continually updated as new reports are published and reforms are delivered or fail to materialise. 2/

£324million lost to fraud, zero prosecutions and 250,000+ deaths. But according to Gove, simply mistakes were made. A mistake is pushing a pull door, or using the wrong homophone, not mismanaging millions, and causing needless deaths.

The latest Covid Inquiry report omitted a chapter on PPE Medpro, Baroness Michelle Mone, and her husband due to ongoing criminal investigations. But what happened with all the other allegations around PPE contracts? 1/8 🧵
