Amazing to see NYC DOT just straight up saying over and over that a project is worth doing solely on the basis of street safety. Ignoring the haters. Not even paying lip service to anything else. Just saying safety is the goal and nothing else is important enough to delay. Aspirational.

We really need to get to the bottom of why people with fantastic wealth aren't simply wandering off to enjoy their extravagant lives in peace...

It happened again

Took @nashvillebcycleops.bsky.social to McDougal's for lunch and saw a bike locked up to a sign outside. Figured there must be somebody I knew in there, and sure enough... had a delightful lunch with local legend @benvaught.bsky.social! Bikes support a level of community that cars could never.

🚨 URGENT BULLETIN TO ALL NASHVILLE SICKOS 🚨 If you see a painted bike box at any intersection, that intersection needs to have a No Right on Red sign to prevent cars from pulling through the bike box. If there is not a NROR sign, Hub it and Metro will fix it quickly!

Our built infrastructure robs kids of their freedom of independent mobility. Streets are dominated by oversized vehicles, piloted by aggressive and distracted drivers where one mistake can turn lethal. We sacrificed child development to subsidize the auto industry.

I think I am susceptible to AI psychosis, but in the very specific way where if I ask it enough questions about why football teams don't deploy multiple offensive players that can throw and run well, it will convince me that I am the next Ben Johnson with my two QB playbook

🚨 🚨 EMERGENCY STREETS PILOT PROGRAM 🚨 🚨 Nashville’s Vision Zero Advisory Committee has been pushing for a similar approach for years, falling on deaf ears at NDOT. Maybe a positive example will give them the push to commit to rapid response like the City of Spokane!

City of Spokane@spokanecity.org

The City is launching its new Emergency Streets pilot program, which provides a rapid-response approach to traffic safety by installing temporary traffic-calming measures within 48–72 hours of a fatal crash. The goal is simple: increase awareness, reduce speeds, and make streets safer right away.

The program includes rapid response traffic calming to remain in effect for ~2 weeks following a fatal crash. Treatments include traffic cones, special branded signage indicating a fatality occurred, and even painted roadway markings indicating a Fatal Crash Zone.

When coupled with an in-depth review and future planning for capital improvements at the site, this could be a potent combination for systematically eliminating fatal crash risk at areas where fatalities are actually occurring. Can't wait to see how this works for Spokane!

I'm seeing lots of amazing bike bus stories going around on Bluesky, and it got me thinking - could I be a part of a bike bus when my son is ready for elementary school? I live just west of Gallatin Pike up behind El Fuego. That puts our family in the Hattie Cotton Zone for elementary school...

The "safer" route using Riverside and Greenwood actually runs through THREE OTHER elementary school districts! Dan Mills then Inglewood then Rosebank, and finally back across Gallatin into my zone! I would also consider Chadwell, to the north of my house, to be more bike accessible...

So my zoned elementary school is firmly the fifth most easily bikeable elementary school from my house, and yet - that is where my son would go to school. In fact, my zoned school is in a different Council District than my house! Needless to say, I won't be organizing a bike bus any time soon 😞

I plotted a course on Google Maps between my house and Hattie Cotton Elementary. Google suggested that I ride directly down Gallatin Pike for a majority of the route. Bike heads know this is a no-go, so I opted for a customized route on slightly more comfortable roads...

If you're ever debating whether it is worthwhile to make time for the gym in your weekly routine, just know that your ass might be posted in the NY Times without your consent. Don't gotta get ready if you stay ready, I'm learning.

It should be celebrated that in an era where transit funding crises are putting entire systems in major cities at existential risk, Nashville just keeps improving transit year after year, even before we had a dedicated funding source. Can’t wait to see what these numbers look like in 2030 or 2040.

Bus numbers to the moon 🚀

Them: “People must be allowed and incentivized to pilot several thousand pounds of their personal property into downtown so they can access businesses and amenities.” No they don’t. You just made that up.

Everyone should be able to walk/bike across the street without fearing for their life. Yet Nashville continues to see pedestrians killed while crossing our roads. No turn on red is a proven step that can help prevent these tragedies. We’ve studied the issue long enough. It’s time to act.

Truly an unfortunate time for the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County to be going hat in hand to these freaks asking for money to support the kinds of things they are publicly renouncing in their official guidance 😅

The Republican war on science comes for road safety. Protected bike lanes, road diets, and automatic traffic enforcement prevent people from being killed. Researchers have proven this—repeatedly.

Really unfortunate that Nashville’s first major initiative to rebuild our streets for safety, livability, and choice coincides perfectly with these short sighted federal chuds holding the money bags

"Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced Tuesday that his department would redirect $1.73 billion in Biden-era grants away from establishing “DEI bike lanes” to build roads and bridges instead." The most shallow, simplistic fuckwits to have ever lived are running the US government...

What the owner of the New York Knickerbockers is doing to his own fanbase ahead of tonight's game will replace whatever example is currently used for the "Own Goal" entry in the dictionary. As an interested but detached third-party, I can't wait to see what happens!

According to this story, Nashville is waiting on $9.3 million in federal funding to complete the East Nashville Spokes project. That is less than one typical month of CHYM revenue collection... www.tennessean.com/story/news/l...

If it were up to me, I would take delaying CHYM roll out by one month in order to get out from under the Feds thumb and start building Spokes ASAP! I get that we want free money where we can get it, but um... not sure we're getting it from the goons in charge of the federal government!

It is a real and recurring issue that committee agendas are populated with items on which there is essentially no substantive update from city officials. This item could have been an email, or update to the project website. So grateful that the chair held some uninformed feet to fire on this one!

I'm also going to need the notes taker to list every single piece of info that the city officials promised to look into & get back to the committee on. The list is prolific, just from this section of the video, & the track record on actually getting that info into the public eye is... spotty.

Hot downtown cycling take: I’m fine with parents parking in the Commerce bike lanes to drop off their kids at daycare, as long as there is room for me to maneuver around and stay within the cycle track.

TN bike people! I need to say goodbye to my vintage Santana tandem. Late 90s. Campy 3x8. My daughter prefers riding her own bike now and it gets little use. It's worth something, but I mostly just want to get it to somebody who will ride it. Small kids can ride with an adapter.

What nobody is telling you about the new greenway boardwalk: it smells INCREDIBLE! Totally different aromatic experience than the ped bridge or the paved greenway below.

There are thousands of bus boys laying in wait Waiting for you to share your positive experience on the people’s limousine

Here’s one of mine: Wake up and get ready for work. Realize the 34 express to downtown is 15 minutes out. Saunter down to my stop and wait three minutes in the early morning breeze. Tap my credit card for a $2 fare. 15 minutes later I’m off the bus downtown. Got to look at posts the whole time.

Said hello to 4-5 folks on the bus. Felt more connected to my community. Never felt unsafe. Got to stay a little late for a happy hour at work knowing I wasn’t gonna be endangering everyone else on the road on my way home 12/10

This reminds me of some math I did last year. There are over 3000 places where two one-way n’hood streets intersect in Chicago. If we bumped out the curb to prevent parking within 30’ of the stop sign (which is the law, by the way) at half those intersections, we could depave 3 million sqft of road.
