This is such an important story. Many of us have long suspected that big property insurance companies are taking a short-term view of profits and not factoring in the systemic risk of the worsening climate crisis. Now industry insiders are confirming that our worst fears about this are real.
BREAKING: A bombshell memo published from senior insurance professionals sounds the alarm on the industry’s deliberate tweaking of climate loss models. They warn that insurers are creating conditions that may cause another global financial crisis. And it gets worse.🧵
Don't let billionaires and secretive local governments pollute our air without a fight.

My op-ed on Meta's FOUR gas plants to power its data center in New Albany, Ohio. Meta is building so many gas plants that it left the RE100, a corporate renewable energy pact.
Natural gas powering Meta's New Albany 1,150 MW Prometheus data center will come from Ohio public lands in Appalachia.
If Google can power a data center on renewable energy, why can't Meta? Opinion. @ccbecker271.bsky.social@dispatch.com: bit.ly/4rm7pLf@ssteingraber1.bsky.social
In May, community leaders from Freeport, TX confronted the Japanese financiers of a dirty, risky liquified natural gas (LNG) project.
💥✊Now, one of the project’s biggest backers, JBIC, is launching an investigation into the Freeport LNG project.

Hey Canada Pension Plan ... this will STILL turn Ohio's state parks and wildlife areas into a fracking sacrifice zone. Where do you think the gas is coming from for these gas plants?
Here's an idea: Invest in something that actually helps people, not harms them.
The Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB) is making a risky bet on gas to power the build-out of data centres for AI -- contradicting its own Climate Change Principles, crowding-out renewable energy, and locking-in carbon pollution for decades. #cdnpoli
If Oklahoma can do it, why aren't more states cracking down on Big Insurance?
By challenging Allstate and State Farm's allegedly unfair claims handling practices, AG Gentner Drummond is opening the door to a broader crackdown.
His counterparts elsewhere have no excuse to sit on the sidelines. 🧵⬇️
Oregon's senators are demanding the CFTC crack down on prediction markets that let people bet on wildfires — warning the practice could tempt gamblers to start fires themselves to win their bets.

This should be common sense. Solar, wind, and batteries are by far the most affordable and cleanest forms of energy. But these projects lock in dirty fossil fuels for decades that are more expensive every year. The oil and gas industry gets rich at the expense of our health, wallets, and the planet.
📣 Our new report finds that the Trump admin’s energy + AI “dominance” policies + hostility to renewables will make it even harder for working families to afford their energy bills.
Thanks to Trump, the wholesale price of fossil gas could DOUBLE over the next decade, outpacing inflation every year.

Insane new research. Scientists gave asthma patients free electric stoves to replace their gas stoves, then checked to see if symptoms improved.
Not only did symptoms improve, ditching gas was *better than medicine.*

Thou shalt not blame Canada for wildfires caused by climate change you’ve spent your whole life denying and intensifying through your own greed and stupidity.
The SEC is proposing huge changes to corporate reporting, in a condensed time period, that would collectively dramatically reduce public company disclosures.
Some comment letters are not so much comments as preludes to litigation.
This is a good example:

If you don't live in an oil and gas region, you may not know how difficult it is to get this toxic pollution shut down. But these folks did it with persistence and grassroots organizing.
A year and a half of organizing around the Redbird wells led to this.
Now, we wonder what comes next. There are still many unanswered questions.

Since the state of Ohio is fracking its own state parks, it's not a surprise that some cities want a piece of the action. But Steubenville wants to frack 99 acres of a historic park dating back to the Revolutionary War.
Sure, money talks, but how can people be so stupid??

Huh. Hasn't enough of that $310 M frack revenue from public lands trickled down to help Ohio small towns in fracked counties like Jefferson? Where is it being spent?

Why is a Japanese bank financing buildout of LNG export terminals in Texas -- next to vulnerable communities that have already endured decades of fossil fuel pollution?

It is a badge of honor to be called an "anti-progress leftist" by Vivek Ramaswamy. He is doing a photo op on a frack pad that is fracking Ohio's largest and most iconic state park, claiming it is good for the environment.
