We've been looking for some response to Trump from Europe, but in reality, African and South America, which both have close ties to China, may be where we see the stiffest resistance.

This is, IMO, most interesting ¶ of Colombian President Gustavo Petro's response to Trump. There's a lot going on, including Petro's invocation (w/mention of Aurelianos Bunedía of GGM's 100 Years of Solitude), which I hope others explain in more length. He's suggesting he has outside allies.

My GUESS is that Xi Jinpeng has given Petro assurances that China will replace US purchasing of Colombian goods--primarily coffee and also flowers. And that's a way to alert Trump that China has means to sway South America (which has long been obvious but Trump has shoddy advisors).
