instead of the “Irish goodbye” I will be piloting the “Maritimer goodbye”, which is when you casually drop the name of a relative as you’re getting ready to leave and have to stay for two more hours comparing family trees until you and the host discover you are distant cousins

Do you like creepy stories? Same. My new folk horror novel I Don’t Fear My Daughter drops April 7. Don’t read it alone :) (link in bio)

Like a bit of spooky fiction? I wrote a novel. Before it launches on Amazon I'm looking for advance readers - Free ebook copy in exchange for an honest review. Supernatural suspense set in rural Nova Scotia, atmospheric and unsettling, folk horror vibes. 📩📲DM me if you're interested.

Great story by @mmughees.bsky.social about the loss of jobs from the closures of museums. I visited Perkins House in 2021 and learned about the first attempts at vaccinating people in Liverpool against smallpox. Important history that many people should know these days!

During the COVID lockdowns, what did we all miss the most? Going out to concerts, art galleries, museums, theatre, comedy shows, pubs, restaurants, and getting our hair cut! In emergencies when the power is out we want to get groceries and a double-double! These people all make our lives better.

Some video from today’s rally in front of Province House. Sara Coffin with Mocean Dance and Ian Sherwood led the crowd in a song and dance called “It’s Okay to Change Your Mind.” #NovaScotia #arts #culture #heritage

Yeah, cool, so a short 🧵 about Halifax's finances. Right now, after 14 or so year of taxes Halifax is at the precipice of a debt crisis which has the genuine potential to be destabilizing to our government. Most likely reforms instead of revolution but destabilizing none the less. Why now? /1

Burnt out caregivers mean shifting the burden to the govt. Means not great things for those getting cared for. This is so short sighted

How I honestly feel about the advent of cold weather. Boots! Hot drinks! Cozy cooking! (come back in mid January. I'll be whistling another tune)

Well how about this...

"When asked a second time if he had requested those powers, Fillmore said, "It's entirely up to the premier to make those decisions, and that's all I'm going to say." This municipality is getting owned by the PC's fast www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Phone rings from a private number. Me: "(answers phone by saying my full name, as always) " Caller: Hey mom, it's me. Did you get my text?" Me: I am a mother to no one. Silence. I mean you do know your mom's name, yes?

Um.. read the room...

Premier Tim Houston's government is using its supermajority in the legislature to give itself the power to fire the auditor general without cause and make reports from the office private. #nspoli www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Disenheartening to see a local small business, who thanked the community for supporting their snow clearing business at the end of last year, now gouging people for bags of salt at $35.

Coun. Becky Kent is calling out Mayor Andy Fillmore for not being at these budget committee meetings this week. She said council deserves to know what Fillmore has to say about the budgets, including the community safety budget. Right now, council is discussing money for a drop-in centre.

Today is #womeninscience day. That’s every day for us because of our @lauradauphinee who is working on her Master of Science in Medical Neuroscience. Her father and I are super proud because her project has been gruelling, yet she continues. We need more young people in science. Bravo, Lu! 👏

I heard this around discussions of trans women using washrooms. A right to a safe space where trans women can pee is not a distraction. Besides the men you have to worry about aren't dressing up as women to get into washrooms. They are waiting for you outside the door and even the highest offices.

Tim Bousquet@timbousquet.bsky.social

The people saying shit like "stop wasting time on this distraction!" are annoying as fuck. I can do two things at once. Sometimes even three. Fuck you and your language patrolling.

Moved into the new place in June and this was the first time I've checked the mail and not had anything for the old owners. OK, yes, I've only checked the mail about 6 times... But still.

Making a beef stew today and just wanted to let everyone know that there will be no carrots in it, because carrots are the Sean Connery of vegetables, in that they ruin everything they are in.
