A couple of Canadian journalists (myself included) have started a fundraiser for Trenth Ernst & Tumbler Ridgelines. Since the shooting, he's stopped writing. We're hoping to get him some short-term support for these hard times. Donate here: www.gofundme.com/f/support-tr...
Heartbreaking to read these reflections for Tumbler Ridge local newsman Trent Ernst. All strength to him as the town he reports in and on daily enters the global spotlight. You can support his hyperlocal journalism (which continues to be so needed and so lacking) here: tumblerridgelines.com/support/

The RCMP’s defence has included a number of false claims. They allege Bracken wasn’t working as a journalist when arrested; they also claim Bracken was “aiding or abetting” protesters. Neither of these claims are true or supported by any evidence.

Some of her gear was later found abandoned under a pile of rubble in the protest camp, which had been bulldozed by the RCMP.
The RCMP knew who Bracken was and knew she was covering the protests: Narwhal editors had spoken with police, and Bracken was carrying a press pass and assignment letter. Police records also show that they had been tracking Bracken:
