🚀 I have a #newapp for #Mac! Pingilla: Uptime & LAN Scanner 🐾 It watches your sites and sniffs your network, right from the menu bar. Named after Milla, my husky, who sniffs around the house. What's on your network and which of your websites are down is […] [Original post on iosdev.space]

An uptime monitor, a LAN scanner and a ping tool… are you getting it? 😜

Jobs jokes aside, I think Pingilla is a long term project. This 1.0 covers multiple app needs I had, but I see lots of directions it could move towards. If you have any ideas and feature requests, I’d love to hear them!

@Aaronvegh thanks Aaron! Haven’t talked in a while, how are you doing?

cdf1982.comPingilla: Uptime Monitor & LAN Scanner for MacWatches your sites. Sniffs your network. Uptime monitor, LAN scanner and ping in one Mac menu bar app, with no subscription and no analytics.

All the details here: https://cdf1982.com/pingilla-uptime-monitor-lan-scanner.html I always target niches, but this one is a small one. If you ever used a LAN scanner or a website uptime monitor, this one is more polished.

16 days in #AppReview, and no end in sight. 1st one was AI, and somewhat reasonable: it asked why an entitlement was there. 2nd, one week (!) later was human, with a request for sample data in the app that made no effing sense: a network scanner with made up […] [Original post on iosdev.space]

@santi Thinking of you in 🇧🇷. Help me prepare, how will it go?

It’s such an odd corner of the internet, the one born a couple weeks ago with Claude generated music videos for Suno generated songs with lyrics that are written by Claude on AI replacing us? Can’t deny I find this fascinating and depressing https://youtu.be/zONGVaONKe8?is=ymbLVM1dj6nnYDqa

Instagram is determined to have me, a person who barely mastered stick figures, draw a #Husky. The first clearly AI generated tutorial a few days ago got me thinking “maybe”, and then today I got the second one and I have never laughed so much.

What if the company giving no heads up (nor tools) about a different aspect ratio device to its developers, that is also not shipping with priority such devices to said developers for months (cough the small subset who could justify the price cough), had a […] [Original post on iosdev.space]

Ok, looks like this is the week of funny experiences. Customer: "I had an AI check our server and it says the SSH port is open and that's not very secure." Me: "Yes, you asked us to open it so you could access the server via SFTP (actually, you wanted FTP, but we discussed it a bit and found […]

mastodon.socialCraig Hockenberry (@chockenberry@mastodon.social)From what I've seen so far, including screenshots from the actual device, the experience on the Duo with apps and websites that haven't been updated is horrible. They should be doing _everything_ to make those early adoption experiences better. Instead, my 5:02 AM order won’t arrive for several weeks after the first shipments. There will be hell to pay if folks can't play their Wordle on the thing. And my banking apps are still getting Liquid Glass updates. Gonna be a long year for developers.

Case in point with my previous post https://mastodon.social/@chockenberry/117451447887471774

I have zero interest in the #iPhoneDuo, but the fact that there’s no official channel for developers to get it on day one is a true masterpiece strategy on Apple’s launch strategy.

The largest GOP donor is interfering in Ukraine to benefit Vladimir Putin and Russia's brutal war. Maybe Republican candidates should be asked if they support that?

NEW: Ukrainian troops were caught off guard by restrictions on Starlink satellite internet systems that disrupted frontline operations, as Kyiv received no advance warning from its partners of a Russian missile attack on its energy facilities for the second day running, Ukrainian officials tell me.

As a longtime fan of WindowShade (see GlanceCam's roll-up feature), I am more than delighted by @rosyna's bringing it back to life! I think more than the shade, what will stick for me is the thumbnail mode (which I'd like to be configurable to much larger size than 128x128, and with a bit […]

This is an important point from @stroughtonsmith: don’t hide behind “people hate AI here” to justify your despicable hangout choices: I use AI a lot and post about it a lot and people here might not always agree, but do engage in meaningful discussion about it. So no, that argument doesn’t fly […]
