Juliet, from @cescotland.bsky.social, has got it right. Our energy can either enrich billionaires or empower our communities. It's up to us to get them to make the right choice.
New research shows that communities across Scotland could benefit by £500 million per year. How? Through a Scottish Community Wealth Fund paid into by commercial renewables developers. Read all about it here 👇 communityenergy.scot/need-for-urg...

'Renewables are the future of Scotland’s energy but we’re at risk of repeating the mistakes of the past. We let the profits from oil and gas disappear into the pockets of corporations. We need to see more ambition from government so it doesn't happen again.' www.heraldscotland.com/news/2599203...
Scotland is rich in renewable energy. But too much of the wealth is going to private companies and investors. ⚡ Let’s take back #OurPower. ♻️ Community-owned renewables 🍃 A public stake in offshore wind 🏭 Renewable manufacturing based in Scotland Join the movement 👉 bit.ly/Our-power
It’s not surprising the public overwhelmingly supports community ownership of renewable energy, rather than big corporate developers, when you see all the benefits the income from local ownership brings to people. #OurPower www.heraldscotland.com/news/2598853...
We're pleased to be a partner in the 'Our Power' campaign. Communities have been leading the way for decades in home grown renewable energy right here in Scotland - but we need so much more of this, and more so now than ever with energy prices and household bills skyrocketing
BREAKING ⚡: We’re calling on the next Scottish government to ensure Scotland’s energy wealth benefits EVERYONE - not just private companies, overseas investors and shareholders.
The Community Wealth Building (Scotland) Bill, passed yesterday, is the first of its kind in the world. We’re celebrating that community ownership of energy is included in all three parts of the legislation. Huge thanks to our friends at @communitylandsc.bsky.social for working together on this 🙌1/3
We welcome the Local Power Plan as a public pledge by the UK Government and Great British Energy to support and invest in community owned energy, recognising the unparalleled social and economic benefits that it brings. Read our full reaction below 👇 communityenergy.scot/ces-welcomes...

Great from @futureeconscot.bsky.social! Community Wealth Building fundamentally challenges the huge inequalities in wealth and power built into the current economic system. And community owned energy is a key part of CWB, creating and keeping wealth locally www.futureeconomy.scot/publications...

Thank you to @eastlothiancouncil.bsky.social for considering ways to make the energy transition a just transition for communities. As Cllr Lynn Jardine said: "too often the financial rewards flow to large companies & distant stakeholders. For a just transition to be meaningful that must change."

Our 3rd manifesto ask is to use planning legislation to rule out new renewables and storage developments that don’t provide shared ownership or community benefit funds at a fair level. ⚖️ Planning decisions on projects up to 50MW are devolved, and Scotland should be using these powers. 🧑⚖️📜
Thank you @alynsmith.bsky.social ! ❤️ Looking forward to meeting with you soon to discuss this.

Thank you @thecommongreen.scot , we agree! @thecommonweal.bsky.social
This would be a game-changing policy. Scotland could progressively transfer all renewables into public ownership by transferring assets at end-of-lease to public energy companies (just like Scotland did with ScotRail). Putting them into community hands would be particularly empowering.

Ask #2 is to use public land to boost community energy. 📈 When new leases are issued for repowering windfarms, community energy companies should have ‘first dibs’. We could meet the target (👇) by transferring 1/3rd of the renewables on public forestry land into community hands. 🎥 bit.ly/4nc2lpD

Our first ask is a target: 🎯 1GW of community-owned energy by 2030. That's 10x higher than now. Ambitious? Yes, but achievable. @rescoop.eu say "In EU countries with such goals in place, clear policy signals and investor confidence has led to significant growth of the community energy movement.”

Great to hear @ariane-burgess.bsky.social MSP calling on the UK Gov to 'break the link' between the price of electricity and gas, which keeps energy bills artificially high.
Great to see @michaelshanksmp.co.uk visiting one of our members Callander Community Hydro this past weekend!
A dreich day means lots of water flowing through Callander Community Hydro - generating clean power for the grid and money directly into the local community. This is the sort of project we want to see much more of - power owned by and benefiting local communities.
