Watching coverage of the Brazilian elections is surreal: the father of one of the candidates tried to launch a coup against the other, even plotting his murder, and yet the race is often being covered as "spiky new kid on the block meets doddering old challenger".

A drone sighting at Berlin airport caused its closure for 45 minutes and the diversion of several flights, including my own to Hamburg. We’re now getting buses to Berlin because Aer Lingus couldn’t land in Berlin before it closed at 11pm.

This being Germany, the 4-hour bus journey, which is only starting now, will only go to Berlin airport and not stop in the center on the way. Germans are unbending creatures, their blinkered devotion to tasks, plans and rules take precedence over anything people might want.

We’ll get to Berlin airport at 4am, seven hours after the plane was due to land, and then have another hour at least to get home. DPA reported there were 28 drone sightings at Berlin airport in the first six months of the year.
