Jo shouldn't need to make this, but here we are. We, yes, all men, love extolling getting comfortable being uncomfortable with the problems we solve. It's time we got comfortable being uncomfortable standing up for women in these situations, no matter how "valuable" who we stand up to might be.

I gave a talk at EMF titled "Men in Tech #YesAllMen", in which I told my experience of being a woman in tech. I was afraid to publish it in case it affected my current or future employment. With all the current news I would like to add my 2¢. So here is the recording: youtu.be/WXL6K1lhvt0?...

the projects that depend on ai will fail to meet deadlines and the people working on them will lose their jobs, not the execs who championed using these tools with no guardrails

we don’t need to explain atproto. we need to move the Overton Window to get people asking why it’s considered normal that a company can unilaterally control (and destroy) part of our identity and we just… let them

The logic in this thread is solid, but it just makes me want - nay, need - to understand atproto more. I may not be the target audience for this shift in thinking, but I want to be ready to help support it.

I was thinking about atproto more and had a thought: no one needs to know or care about the protocol. we just need to normalize the idea that it’s bonkers to allow any company to own part of your identity it’s like how you used to lose your phone number if you switched carriers. that sucked

Idk dawg, I know this industry is big on moral flexibility and good at turning a blind eye to the political affiliations of leaders but it feels like openly calling for the extermination of an ethnic group should be a line in the sand

Seve, you're great, but how dare you go dropping this in the @codetv.dev Discord and complain about your productivity. Mine's shot now, I have to play this! How can I not!

My poor website is so neglected that some dependencies don't even install locally. Which makes this the perfect time for me to built something at AT Proto-driven as possible!

AT Proto might be my next rabbit hole. My quote won't show it, but click into @davidpierce.xyz's post below and you'll see something you might not expect if you're a recovering Twitter refugee: anchor text on a link. It blew me a way for a second. Did we get markdown in Bluesky?! No. Not quite.

I know I'm gushing over something so seemingly small, and this is specifically a Bluesky thing, but as someone who remembers gushing over what nth-child can do, it feels like learning something new, freeing, and refreshing! Like I said earlier, feels like the start of a trip down a rabbit hole!

Turns out each facet has a byteSlice property, with byteEnd and byteStart as child properties. Each post's text is - yeah - a series of bytes! So, given that and a uri as a 'feature', any string of the post can in fact be a link. It's not something available in Bluesky directly (yet?) but possible!

I immediately bugged the first person I knew who knew about the AT Protocol. @brittanyellich.com patiently humored my curiosity about how pasting links worked with a pat acknowledgement, until I pointed out that the anchor text from the post rendered in the preview.
