genuinely what are they doing, what even is this game's identity any more

A new 24-player alliance raid will be added. Yoshida notes these are also looking to evolve this content. What's the theme... Neon Genesis Evangelion.

the idea of Bloober team remaking Rule of Rose has me feeling some kind of way... Please be something else. (Bad. It's bad. They will handle it with all the subtlety of a brick to the head.)

Silent Hill 2 developer Bloober Team is teasing a reveal of some kind that's set to take place in February. https://bit.ly/4a3dAMf

one of the meanest tricks FFXIV has pulled is convincing its playerbase that being able to level every class on 1 character is a GOOD thing, and not in fact an excuse for them to make leveling alts into a soul sucking trial that either costs you hundreds of hours or $50 + the current expac playtime

This explains a lot about the largely stagnant state of FFXIV tbh.

Naoki Yoshida (Square Enix - Director & Producer of Final Fantasy XIV) 1) Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail 2) Ghost of Yotei

btw in the FFXIV forums of every language there is at least 1 multiple hundreds of pages thread of people upset bc the graphical "update" fundamentally changed how their characters look and they no longer enjoy their own character's appearance

Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine) has been tapped to collaborate creating "Everything Burns", a new track featured in the Arcadion raid tier. Composer Masayoshi Soken is a fan and appears pleased.

it's just so interesting to see their priorities in this game. People are literally begging for any sort of acknowledgement of their issues and the dev team is like lmao nah we're indulging ourselves w/celebrity musicians

i love Rage, mind you. It's just weird that this (which definitely cost them a lot of money) is their focus when they've been bleeding subs for the past year. Maybe they arranged for and paid for the collab when they were still in Endwalker lol idk

i think it's a little surprising that people are Actually Upset about someone saying that games writing is subpar compared to literature, because it's true, and it's not even remotely insulting. Video games aren't made to be literature, they're made to be interactive experiences.

It's a little like being mad that your favorite theme park doesn't have food that compares to an award winning restaurant lmao, like obviously food is a part of the park experience but you're there for more than just that. And I say that as a narrative-focused gamer!

going to level with you, bsky, it does bother me to see SHf wholesale being accepted as a "feminist narrative" despite the fact that it's written by a man and all of its female characters' motivations revolve around the male cast. (Except the one girl that dies like 5 mins in, but lol)

I saw someone say that people need to go see it so Disney knows we want more Tron stuff, and frankly as a Tron fan I’m perfectly happy with the slop makers never making another piece of Tron themed slop ever again

Humanity has a chance to do the funniest thing possible and not go see TRON: Ares this weekend. If we can all unite on this planet for one singular reason, let it be this. I need this movie to bomb so bad, dude. It would bring a small moment of joy for me, please.

>walk into store to buy latest horror game release >ask cashier whether the game presents sexist storytelling as progressive or not >she doesn't understand >explain the difference between simply using sexist tropes and actually critiquing them >she laughs and says it's fine >play game >it's sexist

i have no choice but to be the hater in the room and say that this legit sounds bad to me. No shade to the VA, I'm sure this is more of a direction issue, but this feels overacted to the point of comedy to my ears.

Minor characters now truly become the iconic figures of a fittingly sweeping tale. Milleuda, a character I’d always glanced over in previous playthroughs, has become one of my favorites. I would also push Argath off the nearest ledge at any given opportunity. The 2007 script now feels definitive.

I feel similarly about the VA in FFXIV and FFXVI though--just overwrought for the sake of drama and to get the attention of people used to doomscrolling on social media. It's ok if an exhausted, enraged NPC doesn't sound like a main character. People should be able to see her humanity regardless.

got gaslit into thinking the recent super popular Netflix movie would be actually some form of good but I watched it and I’m still thinking about how poorly it was written 💀

Sometimes I wonder how many cool, interesting gaming projects have been completely shot in the foot by someone at the top of the food chain, whether by intentional nixing like Prey 2 or just general bumblefuckery

The problem arises when the story quality dips beneath the already mid-tier level it was coasting along on, as we've seen with a sharp drop-off in playerbase. (I am a part of the drop-off after being subbed for 6 years straight so PLEASE do not tell me it's not happening.)

A common criticism of FFXIV pathces is likie "you get 6 hours of story every 4 months" but I dunno if people realize how actually fast that is that's like 30 hours of story every year and a half, which is an insanely fast pace in the current industry

The story has been THE main draw for the vast majority of the players in the game, so when you release something that is indisputably *divisive*, and every patch is "6 more hours of bad story every 4 months" w/nothing else truly compelling to keep you in, it doesn't matter how relatively fast it is.
