Post

This question is extremely important, even if it *is* from the official discord survey site, if it's an old or unmonitored survey, we're all writing posts and getting angry at a brick wall.

flatout i told them if they implement any more AI features into discord I am dropping the platform. I do not care if I need to build my own fucking platform from scratch.

I just said I’d be moving to Revolt if I got a whiff of AI (though Revolt is now known as Stoat, apparently, and I wish I’d known that while filling the survey, so I could be more accurate)

I filled it out, and in every chance I got I explained that I was thoroughly against AI being integrated into Discord. But I would be okay if it was explicitly OPT IN, my data not used to train, AND anything an AI touches is clearly marked. But hey, at the very least they are asking unlike others.

while I am not opposed to GenAI, I am opposed to Corpo GenAI. It is not a replacement for meat. The best use of AI I have encountered is ironically, GH Copilot. In the specific role as its name, a "COPILOT", its not meant to be a solo tool. its meant to work with the human in the chair.

And the reason for that, is because it actually *sucks* at writing original and good code. Its skill level is closer to a "skr1pt-k1dd13", its just really good at bulk body work. (IE: refractoring the codebase, and asking it why an error exists) Its important to actually know the code lang yourself!

I got mine in yesterday but it seems they already closed it, I guess they got the message that we don't want it lol. Watch them do it anyway.

Unfounded, but I've heard through the grape-vine this may have been an account-stealing scam, not a legit survey. Change passwords, enable 2FA, and log out all devices from your settings page, just to be sure. Your password itself is probably still safe, but your login token would be stolen.

No, it was legit according to this post bsky.app/profile/tech...

Hi. For anyone seeing this, this is fake (or likely misiattributed). The survey in question didn't ask for authentication. On top of that, clicking a link can't steal your auth token because that would be a MAJOR CSRF exploit. Also, here's the survey site's SSL cert info.

I told them if I see any AI “features” polluting Discord, I’m moving to Revolt, which I have this moment learned is now called @stoat.chat. @stoat.chat, don’t you go shoving AI into every orifice and make me rethink that, because I KNOW Discord are going to do it, anyway, so moving is inevitable.

Done and done. This was what I typed in the final comments: (01) "Starting from the environmental impact AI data centers cause on nearby neighbors, through the data collecting, and finalizing with an overflow of word-soups that AI throws I don't even ask for...." Cont...

Noting that Discord is currently working on filing an IPO, which probably explains both why they're doing a survey about AI and why it contains so many negative options. (Because they both hate AI but also know their prospective shareholders are gonna push for it so they want ammunition.)

Matrix has too many fundamental flaws sadly. I don't think it can give a good experience without a complete overhaul from the ground up

Yeah, FOSS gets exponentially better the bigger any given community gets (eg: blender, godot). Discord just seems to be unfathomably entrenched at the moment, despite the blatant enshittification on their way to an IPO.

Last time Discord was flirting with AI, Matrix + Jitsi seemed like it was the closest to a viable alternative to Discord (excluding "move to another free-ish commercial service for 1-5 years until they enshittify" or "pay $$$$$$$ for Slack") and that was gonna be a looooot of jank

They already know all the reasons. They've provided the list of reasons but still think it's worth wasting money and losing customers over.

Sure sign that they already know they're going to do it anyway, but this way they get to pretend they've read the feedback and they'll be using it to "do it the right way", the slimy shitweasels.

Would highly recommend people fill this out. Let it be known loud and clear we don't want AI features on Discord. This has been a major issue and developing problem in the modern world and I'd hate to need to find an alternative to Discord that I quite like.

Thanks for posting this, but there's another problem now, and its that a survey meant to be a true random selection of their user base has now become a self-selected opt-in survey. So the data they are getting as a result of this bleet is suspect (from their POV) Now they have to do more surveys

Useful within narrow parameters - Meh, I'll Allow It; in wide parameters, FUCK NO. Direct influence on human well being, FUCK NO. Direct influence on human *life*: FUCK TO THE HELL NO. Keep that shit in a cage, with a leash and a muzzle on it.

My Opinion: Don't jump on the AI hype-train. Most of the current applications can be done by traditional algorithms, which are (in contrast to AI) more reliable (and deterministic), more efficient (computing hardware wise and ecologically) and don't have the ethical problem with the training data.

A conversation platform like Discord is meant for humans to interact. Putting AI onto it would entirely harm this purpose. There is simply no benefit, compared to the price everyone has to pay.

tell you won't give them any money if they incorporate ai. Also call the CEO stupid if they push through the AI thing or something maybe that'll fix it at the source.

"If the robot even so much as touches the app, I'm shutting my account down. Full stop." Short and to the point.

Every night I go to sleep with the hope in my heart that OpenAI and Sam Altman will be thoroughly decimated in multiple courts for the harm they are causing internationally to literally anyone & everyone. True words from you though. Teen years are hard enough without the slop bots.

The other day, FB messenger asked if I wanted to summarize a message from my mom because it was longer than 250 characters. It was pathetic and I never want to see it in Discord.

I wish I'd screenshotted my closing thoughts, but I equated it to how great efforts of humanity being written off as being AI by younger generations threatens to return us to the same medieval ignorance that concluded that Stonehenge had to have been constructed by Merlin.

They really are. They've been enshittifying Discord for a bit now. I'd really hate to leave another platform I don't have the contact info for my connections for. I guess it's gonna be back to emailing people soon, or ...nnngh, calling them.

since profit is all these assholes care about I made sure to remind them that AI does not generate money, and that they'd lose their entire userbase if they did this

Was going to fill it out after I got ready for the day but the survey is no longer active. Either it was scheduled to close at 1pm or they had enough of being told that genAI is for bozos I guess?

It's probably what they're planning on doing anyway, with the survey simply there to convince some users that their concerns will be handled with care, and/or to gaslight everyone by saying "well, tons of people are really excited for the AI, actually".

I mentioned that adding AI to discord, things like summaries for example, would cause a ton of miscommunication and misunderstandings due to AI not understanding things in certain context (taking slang or memes or inside jokes literally. tone and the context around it)

i also mentioned most of discord is young people who rely on discord for social interaction during the currently growing loneliness epidemic and it would be irresponsible to deprive them of the chance to develop social skills of their own by making them reliant on AI features.

They abandoned ethics when they started kicking creators off their partner program cause their server users opted out of sharing data with Discord, so even the usage stats were left out - Discord literally thought they didn't have anyone on their server. Just cause they cared about their privacy.

So discord abandoned their ethics because they respect peoples privacy settings and don’t collect data for users who have it disabled? Am I understanding correctly?

This would be awful. I swear this is just about having access to one of the largest databases of natural human speech… puts Discord in an amazing position to sell this data just like Pinterest is considering with OpenAI

There's nothing wrong with changing your password if you're anxious over it possibly being an "Account Grabber", but seeing as a majority of people have not had any issues with it- as well as it being the same domain used quite a few times in the past, I'd say you're VERY likely fine!!

yeah I was starting to wonder 'cause I just saw a rumor claiming it was a fake survey, so I changed my password just in case. it needed to be changed anyway.

It was promised to cure cancer and get us bases on the moon and Mars.... Instead it's stealing jobs from artists and dealing out false information... So it sucks...

I recon we can assume that there are individuals within the organization that are pursuing that goal. The CEO tried to instigate block chain tech a while back, so I suspect it’s more than just shareholders, but filling out the survey is giving support to the folks that know what’s up.

I have a few new opinions after watching some of the AMD keynote at CES :D What an abhorrent slab of information vomit. Might even be the worst keynote I've ever seen in terms of content or lack there of.

I feel weird stating it so blandly, but it’s where we’re at, so grim tidings: Grok is being used to generate nonconsensual explicit images, including CSAM. The going trend seems to be prompting under photos of women and girls to edit them into more revealing clothing or nude.

I included concerns about the how on the one side, summaries are not really reliable and they further alienate people from one another and on the other side they provide novel vectors for harassment. I maybe should have been more specific in addition to that.

I know it won’t matter since they are going to force it in anyway and then make the service worse and worse over time until we all bail out on there and it becomes an AI hellhole, but for what it’s worth I let em have it

best way to lose your user-base. ik i'm for sure gone if any of those features get added, cant fuckin escape AI trash features anymore nowadays...

Easiest survey I've ever taken. Lol how many ways can one person say "I do not want Ai, I will stop using your product if you add ai"? Let me count the ways...1...2...3...4...

The way that the questions are structured and frankly the fact they're asking at all gives me a sliver of hope they're being open minded about this

In the comments I explained how AI costs more to do less with worse results, and they would be effively burning money for no benefit

I really hope this is true but it makes me confused why these companies keep forcing it. If all the news and stats are about how much genAI doesn’t work, why are these companies actively pushing it when they don’t have to

There was a study brought to my attention just recently about how they found using AI actually made coders take *longer* to do the same projects (the coders just thought it had made them faster). Added about 20% to their time estimates. It's not even good at the thing it's supposed to be good at.

The first image with concerns about AI shows that Team Discord already knows the many serious harms of AI. And their "pros" of AI are all meaningless bullshit. "Yo Gamerz!!! Do you want to burn the planet down and forfeit privacy to generate ugly custom emojis? To summarize your video chats???"

Didn't find a survey, but if you want to know what I think if AI, It is a huge mistake. AI ruins the lives of creative peoples, artists musicians actors voice actors writers programmers. AI ruins the environment. We need gardrails for what AI currently exists, but the idiots in charge, want more.

Y'all understand how dangerous it is to put the teen suicide machine in a platform where almost every server has got a vent section, right?

Looks like shut down... I saw this earlier today but didn't have time to do it until now, but it says the survey isn't currently active anymore... they probably realized no one that uses their platform wants AI dogshit forced down their throats (one can only hope)

Feeling some mild catharsis being able to select options that actually reflect how I feel instead of being indifferent at worst. Having options like "I am opposed on principle" and "I don't feel comfortable with any of it and don't want it". I'm used to these being so skewed in favour of the thing

This one made me pretty optimistic about it, seems like whoever wrote this survey is one of us who has to deal with their dumb ass idiot boss with their head stuck in a wizard-box trying to shove AI on everything. No actual AI-head is scientifically qualified enough to think to include that option
