September updates! The leaves are changing colors, the last of the holidays is over and weβre back in full swing! π
Alongside a bunch of bug fixes, we've got a few new features on chive.pub we're excited about. Most of them involve connecting a paper to other things that relate to it on the Atmosphere and beyond.
Submitting an eprint can also optionally record it on your @sifa.id profile in the same step, so you don't have to enter a paper twice.
Finally, papers on chive.pub now show which other papers cite them, as a graph you can move around in. We extract references from each PDF with grobid (github.com/grobidOrg/grobid) and match them against what's indexed.

Relatedly, check out @layers.pub's recent announcement about the repo.layers.pub data PDS and lairs (layers.pub/lairs) toolkit.
layers.pub now has an official data PDS at repo.layers.pub as well as a python client and CLI that you can read about at layers.pub/lairs/!
Chive now reads your @sifa.id profile if you have one and populates your public profile with current and previous affiliations automatically.

You can also point a paper at a @layers.pub dataset it introduces or uses. A dataset is named by at-uri rather than by a URL at some host, so the reference is to the record and doesn't depend on a particular page staying up.

New eprints publish a site.standard.document record, so @standard.site readers can pick them up. Sharing an eprint to bluesky also records the post on that document, which makes the reply thread findable from the paper.
You can now post an event with @smokesignal.events or anything else using community.lexicon.calendar.event, list the eprint among its URIs, and the paper shows where it was presented.

@leaflet.pub documents and comments that reference an eprint now show up on it. Chive picks up the reference whether it's an inline link in the prose, a website block, or the subject of a comment.
Records from Semble (@cosmik.network) and @margin.at reach chive as well. Adding a paper to a Semble collection, connecting two works, or annotating one on Margin now shows on the paper.

Papers on chive.pub now have an Atmosphere tab, which collects up records elsewhere on the network that refer to it.

We made a thing! Check out our new #ATScience ecosystem map β¨ All projects, organized in one place: atproto.science/ecosystem/

Great survey of the "scholarly interface design" frontier that also highlights the emerging role of the atproto.science and modular research ecosystems - @chive.pub @paperstarsorg.bsky.social @cosmik.network @semble.so @margin.at @discoursegraphs.bsky.social @curvenote.com and many more!
1/ Scholarly publishing spent thirty years arguing about access. It has barely started arguing about what readers do with the paper once they have it. That second argument is turning into a field, forming around how science gets read and judged. Here is the map as I see it: aris.pub/blog/scholar...

@airglow.run + @continuous.foundation oxa.dev + @discoursegraphs.bsky.social + @scios.tech mira.science + @semble.so connections + ... = modular science revolution π
@airglow.run + page.parts (tba @awarm.space) + @standard.site + Semble connections = community knowledge gardening at scale π€―
We have lots of fun stuff in the works, including deeper interop with some of @semble.soβs new features. Stay tuned!
@chive.pub is doing preprints! and oxa.dev β which is schema for research, watch the atsci keynote β is being supported by arxiv lots and lots of cool potential and (quiet) action happening here βΊοΈ

March updates! @atproto.science and AtmosphereConf, @ronentk.me joined the BiTS accelerator, new Semble features like faceted following and faster card saving, plus exciting community contributions and cross-app integrations with @chive.pub and @skyreader.app Happy Spring π»

Testing @chive.pub <> @semble.so integration π₯ Interop is the future exhibit #23610 #ATScience
We're ramping up our alpha, and we'd love for you to join at chive.pub! Since we launched back in January, we've been adding a ton of fun features; and to introduce them, we're going to be doing a series of deep dives over the next couple weeks on chive.leaflet.pub.
Our third deep dive is on our reviewing, annotation, and endorsement features.
Our final deep dive is on our discovery and citation features.

Hey #langsky! Any feedback you might have on these lexicons is appreciated! You can start a discussion at github.com/layers-pub/l.... π¦π¦
Layers is a set of ATProto lexicons for representing and interlinking linguistic data across modalities. We're hoping to get feedback on a draft proposal for the lexicons. docs.layers.pub github.com/layers-pub/layers
As noted in the post, there are still some kinks to work out (mainly around interoperability with @semble.so), but the main functionality is there, including feeds that automatically populate with papers, reviews, etc. based on the authors, fields, etc. in the collection.
Our second deep dive is on one of our newest features: collections.

Layers (v0.5.0) now has a pub.layers.changelog lexicon for targeted semantic versioning of all data and metadata components in the pub.layers namespace. docs.layers.pub/lexicons/cha... We've also documented plans for developing an AppView. docs.layers.pub/appview/ Discussion welcome.

Layers (v0.4.0) now has a full set of XRPC queries with domain-specific filter parameters for every record type, and a major simplification to the way segmentation works. Github: github.com/layers-pub/l... Docs: docs.layers.pub

Been tinkering with schemas for sharing language data over ATProto (the technology that underlies bluesky). Trying to support everything from acceptability and inference judgments to interlinear glossing to syntactic parses to eye and neural recordings. Discussion and comments appreciated. π¦οΈπ¦οΈ
