I realize that I’ve been doing a bad job of sharing my work lately. The world has been so dark and stormy that I’ve felt shy about doing self-promo, but hey, why spend all that time writing unless I want people to read my work, right? So here goes…

This whole country is gonna have blue balls forever that there was never an Obama vs. Trump election even though it‘s all that most people on both sides ever wanted

Micah@rincewind.run

my main takeaway from the cheesecake factory thing is that I remain extremely sad we never got an obama versus trump general election matchup obama would have broken him in half, rural dipshit whispering powers or no

We also gotta get out of the panopticon mindset and start reading and dancing to music again and stop video-ing each other doing anything slightly weird and taking pictures of strangers on the subway like volunteer cops. Documenting an uninteresting life nonstop instead of living interesting life.

The thing you have to account for with stories like this is that the people who are loudest about needing more money for TV ads are the consultants who do media placement and therefore get rich when there's more money for TV ads. www.politico.com/news/2026/10...

politico.comDemocrats spy a red-state opening. There may not be enough cash for it.As the Senate map pushes into deep-red states, Democrats worry their money won’t reach far enough to make some of them legitimate battlegrounds.

Got back home and turned this Liberty game on at the start of the fourth quarter, what a crazy game!!! We love a last minute 3 to send it to overtime!!

I tweeted this and the Liberty inexplicably made three game-losing fuckups in a row. That’s what I get for tweeting about sports. Get me back to Comic Con!

I know we’re all making fun of the post-2024 election “vibe shift” now, some people are saying it was never real, but I was there, and I remember the incredible Nickel Boys movie being greeted with a collective fart by the culture

After 15 years of ignominy and insults, LANTERNS finally made Green Lanterns cool again. I talked to co-creator/showrunner Chris Mundy about John Stewart's unique path to the ring, appealing to multiple audiences, and setting up possibilities for season 2 www.goldderby.com/tv/2026/lant...

Media pro tip: You don’t actually have to keep calling them “allegations” if the subject admitted to them in court and was sent to jail for them web.archive.org/web/20190403...

web.archive.orgJudge calls Hastert 'serial child molester,' gives him 15 months in prisonOne abuse victim and the sister of another confronted Hastert in federal court about sex abuse decades ago.

ennis Hastert, whose political legacy as Congress' longest-serving Republican House speaker was later fouled by allegations that he had molested high school athletes during his prior career as a teacher and wrestling coach, has died, a coroner said Monday. He was 84. n.pr/4hGbjdI

It’s really something that the longest-serving Republican Speaker of the House went to jail for molesting young boys, and Democratic politicians never mention it and “liberal” media only included it in his obits under duress. Since this site is always sharing dumb tweets, I thought this was smart

And here's another thing to be depressed about! Wow, this week is not off to a good start. My deepest sympathies to all the really talented PopVerse staff! bsky.app/profile/comi...

The worst part of Bonta caving on the Paramount merger is that it's a big flashing signal to every other company that there is no antitrust enforcement in America and you can bully your way into getting whatever you want. It's a monumentally bad decision.

Really appreciate this argument from David Dayen, Matt Stoller, and Lina Khan: There are already plenty of legal tools to prevent companies from releasing dangerous and defective products. Politicians should try using those instead of just letting the AI industry make up its own laws

David Dayen@ddayen.bsky.social

Remain calm. That's our informed advice for lawmakers based on the past experience of legislating in a panic after 9-11 and the financial crisis. We have laws to prevent risk from faulty products and the states can damn well start using them. prospect.org/2026/09/15/a...

Glad to see actual Democratic electeds starting to say this, too bsky.app/profile/smit...

These big AI companies should be held civilly and/or criminally liable and prosecuted when their models hurt people. They don’t get a free pass just because they’ve now decided to admit to the dangers of what they’ve created.

Ed Sheeran alone with his loop pedal playing to an empty stadium with Robert Kraft in the rafters doing the citizen kane clap

One thing I wonder: Are politicians bamboozled by AI doomsaying because they haven’t read enough sci-fi (so they don’t recognize that many of these “apocalyptic“ predictions are just recycled Harlan Ellison/Philip K Dick plots) or because they read too much (and are filling in the blanks)?

It’s actually crazy that the Oscars don’t do this anymore. One of the best moments in Oscars history is Denzel winning his and holding it up to Sidney Poitier in the crowd, who had just won a lifetime achievement one — impossible scenario now

Daniel Fienberg @thefienprint.bsky.social

Reminder: It is *inexcusable* that the Oscars have moved the lifetime achievement awards out of the main telecast. There is no reasonable justification for not having a moment like that Michael J. Fox moment at EVERY award show.

Way more than labels like “leftist” or “centrist,” or even age, the real divide in the Democratic Party is between a select few politicians who think we should do ANYTHING at all, and the majority who want to continue doing absolutely nothing

Great timing to see this clip from the GOAT concert film on our way to see the new Oasis one! “Slippery People” is my fav Stop Making Sense track, Lynn Mabry and Ednah Holt’s backing vocals make the live version so much better than the original that this is a must-include on all my party playlists

Carl Quintanilla@carlquintanilla.bsky.social

“Stop Making Sense” turns 42 today. Of his performance, David Byrne said: “You see this person in the beginning [of the film] who's kind of angsty, stumbling around .. And then, by the end, he's surrendered to the music and is fairly joyful .. He’s found a kind of community." 🙏🏼 “Slippery People”

All the AI doomsday nonsense is clearly just marketing, relying on people to fill in the blanks with decades of apocalyptic sci-fi pop culture

Tom Ley@toley.bsky.social

The doomsday stuff from AI researchers is so annoying. It’s like hey the weirdest guy you know keeps saying he’s going to blow up your house. He won’t show you the bomb. Every time he does this he gets another $1,000. But also he might do it. Wyd?

“AI is for the bosses.” Good thread analyzing recent data about workers hating AI while management loves it

Brian Merchant@bcmerchant.bsky.social

Basically, whether or not you like AI at work will depend on how much power you have; to decide how and how not to use it, to avoid being terminated by an AI-enthused manager, and so on. It further underlines what's long been evident: AI is for the bosses.

Democratic Party leaders believe Adam Silver and Roger Goodell have more right to govern than they do. Hakeem Jeffries would probably tell you this if asked, he doesn’t see it as a problem

Not sure why Jane Schoenbrun gets so much shit online for “stating their films’ ideas explicitly” from the exact kind of people who are otherwise constantly posting screenshots of David Lynch staring directly into the screen telling you to support trans rights or die
