Overheard in restaurant: Some guy fervently trying to convince a woman to use an AI bot to answer her emails. Woman: I don’t want some bot responding to scammers, then I’ll just get more spam. Guy: Well how do YOU handle scammers, hmmm? Woman: I just DONT RESPOND TO THEM. Guy: <silence> LMAO

Has anyone invented a script to go through your music streaming accounts and mass-block all the "top" AI "artists?" I would pay money for that.

Once again: Every incentive for other nations in the post-Trump world is to develop an hoard nuclear weapons. We didn’t meet our commitments to Ukraine who gave them up willingly, we bombed Iran, we cozied up to NK.

Q: Are you exchanging written letters with Kim Jong Un? TRUMP: I can't tell you that. But I get along with him great. He has 57 very powerful nuclear weapons. He's gonna be fine.

NEW: Flock has said for years that its cameras "cannot track individuals." We found the code for its new AI tool. It's preloaded w/ prompts like "Find me witness" & "find relatives." One tracks visitors of multiple hotels, another if you visit banks after midnight. www.wired.com/story/flock-...

Stop searching for some Trump grand strategy regarding foreign policy. He’s just making it up as he goes along, based mostly on personal proclivities and based not at all on the pursuit of American national interests.

Fondly recalling all those Patriot Act/FISA debates where surveillance apologists would roll their eyes at mention of Hoover-era abuses: You clearly don’t understand all the institutional reforms that would render such a thing impossible in the modern day.

Die Spitz, holy shit! These chicks absolutely melt faces. They are absolutely going to be headlining in a few years. Go see them now while it’s easy to get close.

Everyone has seen "Skips Leg-day Guy," but I encounter a new creature at the gym this week: "Only Does Bis and Tris Guy." This guy had: - no legs - no chest - no shoulders Literally only biceps, triceps, and forearms. What a bizarre way to spend your workouts.

I'm hosting an AMA with security researcher @runasand.bsky.social on August 12th at 5pm PT / 8pm ET to answer questions about the recent case of an American charged by the DOJ for allegedly wiping his phone with a "duress" password during an airport interrogation. It's the first case of its kind.

Just got one of those AI generated phone call scams about a relative being in jail and needing money for release. It was all 100% believable until they hit a dead-end and pivoted to claiming *I* was in legal trouble. Using AI to make voice calls needs to be illegal.

I worked for New York’s largest medical center at the start of the pandemic. There were morgue trucks on the streets. They set up emergency medical tents in Central Park. Healthcare worker colleagues died. It is horrific that RFK Jr is on national TV lying that ICUs were empty.

This morning in Biddeford, Maine, a 26-year-old man said goodbye to his wife and daughter and left for work. Moments later he was dead, shot in the head by ICE agents, the second man ICE has killed in six days. ICE is killing our neighbors. ICE cannot be reformed. Abolish ICE.

I am generally extremely anti-AI, although I recently started using it to help build D&D campaigns for my kids. Overall it does a "close enough" job. The more I'm using AI, the more I'm getting annoyed at its obsequiousness. It's so fucking grating.

There's still so much that doesn't make sense though. It gives items with duplicated effects. It creates maps where somewhat hostile races are directly adjacent, with the stated neutral party being off to one side rather than connecting them. Maps intended for players have obvious spoilers.

Why do people think this is "intelligence?" Despite claiming to check its work, and having explicit instructions to check for consistency and continuity errors, with specific examples of what to avoid, it still makes those errors that are intuitively obvious to a human reviewer in seconds.

This stupid-ass AI just placed a monster that is vulnerable to fire directly on top of a vent that spews fire damage every turn. I just cannot.

Still doing lots of experimentation, but Fable (on "low" effort) seems to be a bit better. It still makes some stupid blunders, but the overall story it creates is better. Also it seems like a huge amount of my token expenditure was creating maps, so skipping detailed maps removes headache.

For example, I gave Claude (Sonnet 5, medium) explicit info on party composition and the level of content to generate. It fell way short. I told it to expand the content to have enough XP to reach stated level. It failed again. I then gave explicit XP target, and it only hit 2/3 of it.

It was able to double-check it's output and realize that the XP wasn't nearly enough, but it made a bunch of excuses and ultimately just left it as-is. I really cannot stress enough how incredulous I am that people are using AI for anything important. It's just so flawed!

Also the consistency is not great. It generated maps with differences between the campaign overview version and the detailed room maps in terms of where exits are, which rooms connect, etc. I can work around that for a DnD campaign, but it just boggles my mind people are using for important stuff.

Welp, the further I build the campaign past lvl 1/2 the more wildly out of touch AI (Claude) is getting. It's just staggering how bad it is, given how much of this information is available. It generates stuff that seems plausible, but then falls apart on close inspection.
