Historian here: “To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.” ― Theodore Roosevelt

You do not have to pretend the Union and Confederacy were on equal footing because they both shot Americans. Good intentions alone can't justify everything. And they can be their own danger. But it's so much worse when we stop demanding people demonstrate good intent!

We have had nearly two decades of panic about Free Speech on Campus and not a single case, not even the ones they made up, were as bad as what's happening now

This is the text of the email just sent to hundreds of international students telling them that their visas have been revoked due to activism or social media posts.

It’s really strange being reminded that “when I first heard about trans rights” is a thing that may have happened for some folks who I think are around my age only after the anti-(LGB but really gay) movement swung hard to go after trans people

Hunter Walker@hunterw.bsky.social

An important point here is that I never thought of myself as intolerant. I always wanted to be completely supportive of trans rights. However, I found myself wondering and worrying about various technicalities and potential problems for getting to a better place.

We can debate lots of things. We cannot debate trans peoples' existence. That is not ethical or objective in any way. Trans people are here! We can either be good neighbors or be gross.

The reality is, there is a whole complex dedicated to steering the discourse towards "just asking questions" about trans rights. This focuses the conversation on super rare and narrow issues that, in most cases, aren't issues at all.

I cannot emphasize enough that the New York City subway is not scary. It’s one of my favorite parts of living here. I grew up in the suburbs having to drive on highways everywhere and that’s way scarier

It is perfectly legal to know your rights and to educate others about them, too. EVERYONE in the United States, citizen or not, has rights. I will not allow this administration to intimidate us from helping you know about them. Here’s our shareable guide ⬇️: (pt. 1/2)

NIH stuff is yet another example for their being only one game in town for Real Problems. yep, admin bloat is an issue in many ways. nope, you don't address this by overnight de facto massively cutting science budgets across the country. you can't work on Real Problems with republicans , sorry.

I’m very conflicted about posting baby pictures but I know if I did I’d get way more interaction - she’s intensely photogenic and when she sees a camera she works it

New — The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) was told this week by DOJ that they'd lose their funding if the org didn't remove any mentions of LGBTQIA+ issues from their public materials, I've learned. Staff were told they need to deadname trans kids in their reports to comply.

Whether you're making plays on the court, calling the shots, or driving change behind the scenes, you shatter ceilings, challenge limits and inspire the next generation to dream even bigger. To the Girls and Women in sports everywhere, the game is better because of YOU 🤍

This is such basic stuff, people make mistakes certainly but knowing how to build so this can’t happen is a big part of what makes experience valuable

The fact that WP which was literally originally an engineering school, would disband the society of women engineers club on its grounds is absolutely a betrayal of every woman engineer and the legacy of the army.
