Day 27 of #PaLtaSO26! The chorus to this Tragically Hip song popped into my head yesterday even though I haven't been listening to them much lately."I thought you beat the inevitability of death/To death, just a little bit" youtu.be/IUoR3KTjCHM?...

Day 26 of #PaLtaSO26! Here is some new music from Skating Polly, maybe they will come back to Vancouver. skatingpollyofficial.bandcamp.com/track/krobus

Day 25 of #PaLtaSO26! Here is a song from Biblioteka's most recent album -- they are coming to Vancouver next week. bibliotekaband.bandcamp.com/track/delusi...

Day 24 of #PaLtaSO26! I am posting Phoebe Bridgers again because we are going to see her tonight, this is my favourite song of hers. Also the video is fun. youtu.be/Tw0zYd0eIlk?...

Congratulations to Pip Adam, recipient of the 2026 Ursula K. Le Guin Prize for Fiction for Audition!

Sad 'news' about Google.

Day 21 of #PaLtaSO26! Live music again from the openers for Tripping Daisy, a Texas band called Jumprope. jumpropemusic.bandcamp.com/track/optimi...

Day 20 of Post a Link to a Song October 2026! This was probably the biggest venue I went to a show at this year. Bigger and Weirder tour youtu.be/SMhwddNQSWQ?... #PaLtaSO26

Day 19 of #PaLtaSO26! Another live band I saw this year was one I used to listen to in the 1900s, took my youngest kid who wasn't born yet when this album came out. youtu.be/eYI99xuI9CM?...

This is really good and has a lot of citations and interactive diagrams. (long though and probably needs at least a bit of programming background)

Day 18 of #PaLtaSO26! Another live band, we saw the Beths in November at the Commodore and it was great. This is the last song they played before the encore. youtu.be/KMhm3j2RfsI?...

Day 17 of #PaLtaSO26, continuing live music week with last night's opening band, Waitress. Seemed like they were playing music from a Broadway show I hadn't heard of, very theatrical, lots of saxophone. waitresscore.bandcamp.com/track/here-c...

c.org/VD6V5Zr4Rg I'm not even a big poetry reader but transit is the perfect place to come across a poem I wouldn't have sought out myself

Day 16 of #PaLtaSO26 and we have Cheekface... I've been listening to them a lot the past few years and I'm going to see them tonight. This is off their 2026 album and it's called "MFT" and it's about AI. youtu.be/FeBxmNLwp58?...

#PaLtaSO26 day 15 and we're starting live music week. David Byrne was probably the best show I saw since last October. Apparently there's going to be a movie of the concert or I think you could watch his Coachella sets online. youtu.be/YM-BTJKIz0Q?...

#PaLtaSO26, Day 12! This next band is from Australia... not sure if I posted them before and this song would count as new music. Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers. youtu.be/kogvSIKCQHg?...

#PaLtaSO26, Day 11! This next band is coming to town in May. Here's an older song of theirs. youtu.be/3AoOfJP3r40?...

#PaLtaSO26 Day 10! Here is one that came out almost a year ago but I only started listening to this summer. Ratboys with "Anywhere". youtu.be/KYUMoL9FrIA?...

That is cool, Inbetweeners won a Harvey award. I just read it a few weeks ago and quite enjoyed it.

Official statement from the law abiding and democratic free world. "We will continue to work together to support the Court’s vital work, uphold the rules-based international system, and advance accountability."

#PaLtaSO26 Day 9! I don't even listen to this band (Dwayne Gretzky) but the video is good for Halloween, also I like how he switches up the intro. Probably didn't need so many drummers or backup singers but the costumes are fun. youtu.be/vK2JxPMAMD8?...

#PaLtaSO26, day 8! No theme this week but a song from a band who has recently announced their first live shows in ten years and also been posted twice before on day 8 -- Hey Rosetta! youtu.be/m-Doj3Ie5eg?...

Things That Are Good to Do. Including “admit what you don’t know”, “put the cart away”, “rest before you’re exhausted” (I often get this one wrong), and “walk home if you can”. [quarter--mile.com]

Post a Link to a Song October day 6! #PaLtaSO26 New music week continues, this one also came out last week from the Zolas (who are playing in Vancouver tomorrow and Saturday) youtu.be/iUTr8_ubqWY?...

At @bloody-disgusting.com this morning, we've got an exclusive excerpt from @stephengrahamjones.com's OFF THE RESERVATION, courtesy of @sagapressbooks.bsky.social! Read a key section of the book one week early!

Congratulations to our Mineral Cup 2026 Champion Quartz! For #MinCup26, we collectively chose a nostalgic beauty of resilience as persistence as our champion. Please celebrate #Quartz, a friend to humans since time immemorial! www.mineralcup.org/about/2026-q...

#PaLtaSO26, Day 5! This song is very new, just came out last week. Martin Tielli used to be in the Rheostatics, this reminds me of some of their songs. martintielli.bandcamp.com/track/cruelt...

#PaLtaSO26 Day 4! Here is Panic Shack, mostly women in a Welsh punk band. (a bit of pop in the sound too) youtu.be/0_S_CSvxqDo?...

#PaLtaSO26, Day 3! New music week brings us Royal Blood who sound as good as ever, I hope we get a tour date (but hopefully not in a stadium). "Swallow the Bomb". youtu.be/b2oRuOk3d4s?...

#PaLtaSO26, day 2! This is new music from Phoebe Bridgers who did a bunch of fun stuff around the release of her new album, including this TV debut of the song "Lost Boys". youtu.be/zfaVCiyyqTQ?...

Congratulations, Quartz! After a decade of #MinCup, this key rock-forming mineral of optical tricks is the #MinCup26 Champion! Due to intense manipulation attempts in the final hours, the exact winning margin is still being audited. Please join us tomorrow for celebration!

I voted for #quartz of course! How could I not? #MinCup26

Tough one but I'll stay salty with #Halite #MinCup26

Universal training data. Universal dividend.

I feel like my votes in the quarterfinal have been pretty basic, but I went with #grqphite #MinCup26

#Halite vs. quartz would be a great final. #MinCup26
