I've spent the last 29 years making the world more cynical, one child at a time. Now I spend my time gluing things to other things and telling the cats to get the hell off the table.

Reason #473 how I know my manager has my back: she gives me secret heads-up on days of planned fire drills so I can be “at lunch” when they happen and not have to schlep to the far parking lot like a toddler.

I do wish that more Dems around the country would put their PR/social media people in touch with his people tho. His social media was ON FIRE for a while there.

Me, Saturday night: I don’t think I’ll watch SNL tonight; I don’t like the host, tho I can’t remember why Me, Sunday morning, scrolling my newsfeed: Oh yeah, that’s why.

Amazon has correctly sussed out where I live (duh), that I have a cat, "prefers Blistex for lip care", and my favorite, "likely prioritizes comfort features in clothing" (because it also knows my preferred brands for leggings and tops).

Mine didn't know much except what I buy at Whole Foods (which is only a couple of things) and where I live. I often find these "they know everything about you" stories to be a bit sensationalist.

Local Historical Soc posted 1955 Sr Yearbook pictures. Out of 51 class members in this little district, two have the exact same first and last name, just different middle initials. They HAVE to be related (tho they look nothing alike). I'm assuming both named after a beloved late grandfather?

At the surg center waiting for next round of hip injections, I got to update my records so the Schmoop is now listed as my husband. Still getting used to that.

I married my Schmoop today. 15 years together, the first 12 of which were long-distance. Some things are worth waiting for. And he definitely was worth it. Now I’m watching 9 to 5 with 22yo while his partner does homework and the Schmoop sleeps b/c he’s gotta get his kid to the airport early am

Ordered the fake flowers, candles, etc for wedding centerpieces. Do I have the skills to put together floral centerpieces, having never done it before? Guess we'll find out this weekend. (Hope so, cuz if I can't do it, it'll be too late to get replacements.) #11days

TIL that twisting all that wire and tape is very hard on the old, weak hands. I can do, like, ten in a row at best. This is going to be an ongoing project for the next week. But some of the "flowers" actually look good, so I'm encouraged.

Happy to report that all but two of the centerpieces are finished, the other two just need some hot glue (1) or snipping and wiring (2). Tonight, laundry, hair color, and shower/lotion/powder/etc. Tomorrow: name tags for 40 and the making of the hotdish so kids will have easy food for the weekend.

A local singers' group is advertising their concert on FB. They say they will offer "hordervers" and mimosas after the show. I mean, I can't spell it either, but I at least would have the sense to google it before publishing.

In other news, Bro #1 (the recalcitrant one) confirmed via text that he and his kids will attend the wedding. (I knew his kids would come via Grandma, but wasn't sure about him). And Schmoop confirmed all of his sibs will be there too. Family pix all around! This makes me very happy.

It's been a few years since we've gotten a shot of all my sibs together as well (see prev re: recalcitrant bro). Getting all 6 of us in a pic will make my mom happy. Getting all 14 grands will as well. I'm just looking forward to getting updated pro pix of me and my kids (haven't had since 2012).

TBH, getting great family photos is more important to me than getting great wedding pix. Schmoop and I aren't particularly photogenic, so if we get, like, six great photos of us, that'll be more than we have already. But getting all of his sibs together for the 1st time in 20 yrs? Priceless.

Some of the fake flowers and stems arrived; I figured out how to attach some of them and realized I needed larger stems for the others. So I ordered more. I've def hit the "Throw Money at the Problem" stage of planning, but on the plus side, I think I can make some decent centerpieces out of these.

Heh. We just started this series this week, and tonight the Schmoop said "Everyone on this show has great boobs. Including Reacher."

I’ve yet to make it through an episode of this show without yelling “TIDDIES!!!!!” at the top of my lungs.

Wedding plans continue: Got final headcount, confirmed the menu etc w/ caterers, finished the meet-and-greet bingo cards (just need to find a printer), shoes selected, still need to try the jewelry with the dress; Schmoop has his clothing choices incl tie, and has ordered his shoes. 18 days to go.

Mom texted @ 8:45 tonite asking me to change bandage on her back; she didn't feel comfortable asking the nephews to do it as it involved seeing her bra straps, LOL. It's now a bit after 10; she just left. Good opportunity for hanging out, plus she wanted all the wedding deets and to see my dress.

While discussing wedding, she was taking mental inventory re: which nephews had dress pants, etc. I had to again say I don't need people to dress up. No Tshirts, but jeans, tennies, and a button-down or polo shirt is completely OK. We ain't fancy. But the food will be.

We're working on the wedding playlist and having fun deciding which "love" songs actually fit our vibe and which ones are just "That's a pretty song but NOT ACTUALLY about love" or fidelity or whatever. And some are "we met as children and we're still together" which LOL no.

aaaaaaaand our A/C is out again. More accurately, it's the whole house fan part that isn't working. We just replaced the A/C unit itself this year and my savings haven't yet recovered. And now this? Is it too late to change our wedding invites to remove "no gifts"? 🫠

Update: At 5pm yesterday, it was 79 degrees inside; AC guy had installed a new motor on the fan and left an hour before. When I went to bed at 11, it was still 74-ish, so I was hopeful but not too much. This morning I woke up cold, even under blankets. House was at 68 as it should be. And still is!

Overheard at work just now, describing the dimensions of a hole in some piece of equipment: “You could fit a Lego guy in there.” Not strictly USDA compliant, but no one has questions.

The 5 Simpsons lines I've uttered most, off the top of my head: 1. "What's your first name, Mr. Burns?" "I don't know." 2. Alcohol! The cause of - and solution to - all of life's problems. 3. You know what I blame this on the breakdown of? Society! 4. "... which was the style at the time". 5. D'oh!

The 5 Simpsons lines I’ve uttered most off the top of my head: 1. Duffman says a lot of things 2. The lesson is: never try 3. The goggles do nothing 4. 🎶 You don't win friends with salad 🎶 5. I don't deserve this kind of shabby treatment!

I have 99 million bells in my Animal Crossing account, a vast wardrobe of biker jackets and boots in many colors, and I can run, jump, and dive (which I can't do in RL). Plus, the most political thing you can do is invite others to move to your island. I can imagine lotta worse ways to spend a year.

Introduce yourself as what almost killed you: Hi, I'm a fully-loaded semi, just minding my morning business driving responsibly, when I saw a car hit an ice patch on the highway and begin spinning, headed directly toward me until the car spun again to slide backward into the opposite ditch.

Introduce yourself as what almost killed you: Hello, we are four almost completely occluded coronary arteries who caused a very small heart attack before we could cause a very severe one, and got bypassed as a result.

Working on the wedding playlist and trying to fit a GnR song in there somewhere... Found on YouTube an acoustic cover of the one song that would fit the vibe. How do I contact the artist to ask permission to use it? (Yes, I could harvest it for the playlist with no one the wiser. Feels wrong.)

Found my wedding dress (by which I mean, the 3rd dress arrived today and it's better than the other 2, which I will return). Next up - shoes and jewelry. Shoes will be easy, but I don't know the search terms I need for the necklace style I'd like. Little over a month left.

Set up a sisters/SILs chat about dress consult this weekend; 1st SIL declined for family/religion reasons. 2nd SIL declined at first, now trying to hijack consult b/c her kid wants her to wear dress at [niece's] wedding, Sis1 and Sis2 picked up on it and redirected to me; cool, but yet...

Caterer and photog retained for Sept wedding, most of the menu chosen. Need to check table arrangements with venue and decide if I want to faff around with flowers, and to order the dessert spread. Now to find a goddamn dress. That’ll be the worst part of all this planning.

Finally got over my aversion to contacting providers to get things lined up for the wedding. We already had the venue; today I think I've lined up officiant and caterer (neither of whom were the ones I was aiming for, but both seem great). Still need a photographer; waiting to hear from 1st choice.

If you see this quote pic yourself wearing sun glasses. This is an old pic... I'm much fatter now but the sunglasses still fit!

I'm for sure "Daddy's Birthday Present", which happened three months before they got married. I wonder if Mom regrets that, but even if she did, she'd never admit it to anyone, much less to me.
