Hegseth is a member of Oath Keepers, a far right ultra religious terrorist group. For that alone his nomination should have failed. However, he keeps people like the following on his staff. Time to rectify your error, Congress. www.rawstory.com/ryan-higgins...

On the blog, I note that the ironic yet predictable result of French rioting instigated by anarchists and leftist will likely be the election of Marine Le Pen. I then draw some contrasts with and lessons for democratic mass movements in the U.S. 👇

That scrupulous application of Bruen leads to results like this is proof positive that Bruen is insanity. Reading a Bruen decision, I’m always thinking, “this can’t be real. I’m having a nightmare, I’ll wake up soon.” Talk about “egregiously wrong from the start.”

Preventing the federal government from impairing the states’ ability to man armed militias: *That is what 2A was for. Federal takeover of the states’ plenary police power to regulate arms would’ve been the farthest thing from anyone’s mind back then. No state would’ve ratified it.

On a visit to a Buddhist monastery in Japan, I was surprised by my visceral unwillingness to participate in a ritual. On the blog, I reflect on that reaction and how it might inform efforts to reform antidiscrimination law. Also, there's a picture of a cute deer in front of the subway entrance.👇

That's just not how it works. And AG Blanche knows it. He's not holding the line against Trump's attempt to subvert the election outcomes. He's facilitating it. The federal government remains the greatest threat to free and fair elections in November.
Blanche on CBS says his suit against Alaska is "asking the court to step in where the Alaska Supreme Court didn't, which is to look at federal law and if necessary to allow a process for Alaska to decide who should be certified as the winner." (So, the voters won't get to decide. Got it.)

AI could kill us all, but the game theory of international relations implies that might be a reason why some countries choose to develop world-ending AI. With analogies to the nuclear arms race, @ggkrishnamoomoo.bsky.social provides analysis on the blog. 👇

Gotta wonder if there's a consulting firm advising him to do this bc it's something some have been pushing, I think. Regardless, he is the candidate & will be responsible for his own choices. What a shame he's hedging on the principle of rights. Which others will he compromise?

NEW from me: Beth Fuller was a 10-year CDC contractor when she was DOGE'd last year by Trump + Elon Musk, a mass layoff process cheered by the GOP. Now she's a candidate in a key swing district that could end the GOP’s decades-long grip on total power in Georgia. www.huffpost.com/entry/beth-f...
