I was given 'The Road to Mons Graupius' at Christmas and it's the most enjoyable book I have read this year. It was wonderful to read about the history of places in this part of Scotland that I know so well, and to visualise what was happening here 2,000 years ago.

There are loads of Scottish Roman forts in my book The Road to Mons Graupius, from Trimontium in the Borders to Stracathro, the most northerly Roman fort in the world. You can buy it direct from the publisher at a discounted price here: tippermuirbooks.co.uk/product/the-... #RomanFortThursday

Nice to see the parch marks of the late Flavian fort at Caersws appearing on the latest Google Earth coverage. The inner roads and stone defence wall along with eastern road and multiple defensive ditches can all be seen. The earlier Flavian campaign fort defences also appear east of the village.

A Roman tombstone for #TombTuesday. It was found on Ludgate Hill in London in 1669, and marked the final resting place of centurion Vivius Marcianus. His wife Januaria Martina set it up for him some time in the third century.

The ‘Jewel of Antiquity’ - a stone fragment from Balmuildy Roman Fort that names Urbicus as Governor of Britain, and in doing so identifies and dates the Antonine Wall. Part of the collections at the Hunterian Museum in Glasgow 📸 My own #EpigraphyTuesday #RomanScotland

This is the six metre tall menhir of Kerampeulven in Finistère, Brittany. Perhaps due to its phallic shape, it was long believed to enhance fertility, so women who hoped to fall pregnant would rub their bellies against it. #StandingStoneSunday

The superbly preserved Craigmillar Castle, three miles south-east of the centre of Edinburgh. Mary, Queen of Scots came here in December 1566 when the "Craigmillar Bond", a plan to kill her second husband, Lord Darnley, was agreed. More pics and info: www.undiscoveredscot... #Scotland #Edinburgh

Another day, another email informing me that my private data has been accessed due to a 'security incident'. Will there ever come a point when we realise that having to give all our personal details every time we want to buy, book, register or subscribe to anything is maybe not such a good idea?

When I was in Brittany last month, I made a quick visit to the amazing Dolmen of Ty ar Boudiged, an ancient tomb that still retains its original mound. Its name translates into English as 'the House of the Fairies'. #TombTuesday
