awpblogcom.wordpress.comA WPBLog is Moving to The IX SportsExciting news! My coverage of the Women’s Pro Baseball League is also going pro. Starting with tonight’s game, I’ll be writing my game stories for The IX Sports as their WPBL Insi…

Tremendous bit of trivia.

Sarah Langs@slangsonsports.bsky.social

There are 3 players to appear for MIL & TB this postseason who have appeared in a World Series game: Yandy Díaz (5), Dustin May (2) & Steven Matz (1) That’s the fewest combined games of WS experience for any World Series starting with the fourth edition of the Fall Classic

I was curious about this one . . . The last postseason in which the team with the better record won every series was 1986, but that was only three series. A Brewers win in the World Series would make it 11-for-11 this year, which has never happened.

Sarah Langs@slangsonsports.bsky.social

The team with the better record has won each series so far this postseason Since PS expanded to multiple rounds in 1969, just 4 years had higher win pct win each series: 1986, ‘78, ‘76, ‘70 Those each were just 3 series. In Wild Card era, this is first time it’s even happened in each pre-WS series

The team with the better regular-season record has won every series this postseason. This World Series will be just the third since 1911 between two teams that have never won a World Series following 1980 (Phillies-Royals) and 1920 (Cleveland-Brooklyn).

The team with the best record won every NL playoff series, and the most recent championship by any of the three teams still standing was in 1948.

I'm sorry to see Yordan Alvarez & Pete Crow-Armstrong's seasons end, but otherwise the 3 Wild Card Series results thus far seem correct. The team w/ better record won all 3, & the team w/ more recent WS championship lost all 3. It's been 17 years since any of 4 AL teams remaining won a World Series.

holy shit -- turns out Jack Smith went to a Hawkeyes game in Maryland but Schmitt's team is so reckless they concocted a conspiracy theory that Smith was actually in Atlanta seeing a Hawks game and colluding with Fani Willis. Klobuchar points out to Schmitt, "you have your teams wrong."

The 11 completed seasons described below resulted in zero championships.

The Brewers are the first team to lead MLB in win percentage in consecutive years since the 2010-11 Phillies  Others in last 35 years: 2004-05 STL 2002-03 NYY 1995-96 CLE 1992-93 ATL

The Queens won the first WPBL championship Tuesday night behind the league's first CG/SHO, by Ayami Sato. My recap includes notes on the series's top performances, manager Eric Young's strategies, the impact of the weather, that the Queens' captain has been under it, and more:

The WPBL Championship Series is going to a winner-take-all Game 5 on Tuesday night, which is what this league deserved. Here's my recap of the Firebells' record-setting Game 4 win, with details on each team's pitching budget for Game 5, the Queens' need for today's day off, and much more:

theixsports.comFirebells explode for 17 runs, force decisive Game 5 for WPBL title | The IX SportsSan Francisco broke open Game 4 with an 8-run 4th inning to even the best-of-five Championship Series against the Queens at 2 games each.

The Firebells came out of Friday's off-day hot and have given us a series. This afternoon, we find out if they can push the Queens to a decisive Game 5. My Game 3 recap includes Cailtin Eynon on the Queens' slow adjustment in Game 3 & notes on Niki Eckert's work situation and Joely Leguizamon's HR.

The San Francisco Firebells staved off elimination Saturday night as an early offensive outburst lifted them past Los Angeles, 10-5. Our @cliffcorcoran.bsky.social on the Game 3 win and how each team's bullpen looks ahead of today's Game 4.

The LA Queens are one win from the first ever WPBL championship. My recap of their wild Game 2 win includes injury updates on several Firebells, Queens manager Eric Young on his pitching strategy, and notes on two oddly hitless players:

The story of Game 2 of the WPBL Championship Series is almost entirely about the top of the fourth inning, when the Los Angeles Queens scored 10 runs against the San Francisco Firebells en route to taking a 2-0 series lead. @cliffcorcoran.bsky.social recaps the game.

The Los Angeles Queens eked out a 7-6 win over the San Francisco Firebells in the first game of the first Championship Series in WPBL history. @cliffcorcoran.bsky.social has the story: www.theixsports.com/features/que...

Of course the only way the Queens were going to beat the Heights was in their last at-bat in the highest-scoring game in WPBL history. My recap includes notes on Samaria Benítez and Jacqui Reynolds, the disastrous broadcast, the Heights wearing gray pants at home & parting thoughts from Val Perez:

In a game for the ages, the Los Angeles Queens beat the New York Heights to advance to the #WPBL championship series. Our @cliffcorcoran.bsky.social takes you inside every twist and turn: www.theixsports.com/features/los...

The ESPN broadcast is being rather casual about it (it has been a disaster tonight, continually dropping out), but it looks like Samaria Benítez may have blown out her ACL on the turtleback slope at Robin Roberts Stadium. That's speculation, but she appears to be in a great deal of pain.

My speculation is based only on decades of seeing this injury happen. She made no contact with anyone else and just crumpled. She is being carted off the field. Hondras to 2B, Maggie Foxx to RF.

The Heights & Queens played the best game in the history of the WPBL last night, with LA closing a five-run deficit, and NY hitting back-to-back HRs off Queens closer Meggie Meidlinger in its final at-bat. My recap includes comments from the HR hitters, LA's last-minute SP change & a look to Game 3:

The Hunters made them work for it, but the Firebells swept their way to the championship series last night, as expected, with homers from Skylar Kaplan, Alexia Jorge, and Kelsie Whitmore. My recap includes injury updates, manager insight, and the Hunters' thoughts heading into their offseason #WPBL:
