This a carpenter bee seen up close (Xylocopa ruficornis). Despite their large size, these bees are generally docile and are unlikely to sting unless they feel threatened or are handled roughly. [📹 jithesh_pai] Original post

Football Octopuses (Ocythoe tuberculata) are a species of pelagic octopus. Like fish and unlike other cephalopods, they have a gas filled swimbladder, which helps them keep afloat in the open ocean. Like other octopuses in Argonautoidea, they are known to ride around jellyfish and salps #OCTOtober

Flapjack octopuses (genus Opisthoteuthis) are perhaps the cutest octopuses around. Like other cirrate octopuses, they have fins, but theirs are small so they look like itty bitty ears. They get their name for the fact that like to squish down and look like a pile of pancakes. #OCTOtober

Octopuses are solitary creatures, which is pretty understandable when most species engage in cannibalism. However, larger Pacific striped octopus are an exception. This undescribed species has been known to live in groups of up to 40 octopuses and mates in a beak-to-beak position. #OCTOtober

When I saw Ghost, the Pacific Giant octopus at the Aquarium of the Pacific she was entering senescence and slowing down. I captured her color with airbrush, so now she has a portrait.

Marble that looks wet. This jaw-dropping detail comes from “The Nymph” (La Ninfa) by Italian sculptor Giovanni Battista Lombardi (1823–1880) where solid stone is carved to mimic water rippling around her bare feet. The full sculpture was executed in 1858 for Palazzo Facchi in Brescia. Original post

The reason that all this happened is because too many Americans thinks it’s cool and funny to be ignorant assholes. It’s not funny.
