Getting ahead of the yearly clock change discourse: the thing that you hate is that there are less hours of daylight in the winter and we cannot legislate more daylight into existence

The world has been in a state of never ending decline since the Windows XP RTM. It was the peak of modern civilization and society will never get back to that state.

this is a QUARTER CENTURY old now youtu.be/GAv1EwoRnec Back to 2001 on LGR today for a retrospective on Windows XP! Reminiscing on its release, unboxing and setting it up, new features, games, screensavers, and a bunch of nifty early 2000s things. Still a truly enjoyable eXPerience decades later!

This morning Muse reminded me about the upcoming time change, with a little extra reminder that computers and phones set themselves and ovens and cars probably don't. ChatGPT reminded me about an appointment with "Allow time to drive across the bridge." Real world-changing stuff here.

Bayou for iOS update: two weeks, two expedited review requests with no response. I rejected it and resubmitted it to try and kick the machine.

My hottest AI take right now is that all of these subreddits don’t hate the AI-coded projects, they hate the endless AI posts that are all written like an Apple press release for every HA plugin and Jellyfin client

Bayou for iOS has been “waiting for review” since October 13. I submitted it 10 full days before I intended to release it. Friday night I requested an expedited review and it’s still sitting.

After a couple weeks of hell, I have come to the conclusion that beta blockers make me insane. The psychological improvement after stopping them is almost indescribable.

You can get a really nice TV free in a specially marked box of cereal

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

Walk into the thrift store across the street from me and there's literally 4K TVs just laying on their side on the floor for $25 because they have so many

10 days since submitting it, the iOS version of Bayou is still waiting for review. The Mac version was approved a couple days ago. But so much for launching a client design for the iPhone duo on iPhone duo day.

Well I was gonna release Bayou tomorrow but the iOS version is still in app review. Great system.

Philly-area people: I need a nephrologist/hypertension specialist. I need one that understands orthostatic intolerance. I need one who can see me sooner rather than later. If anyone has any recommendations or connections I would truly appreciate it.

I keep saying “beta blockers make me feel awful” and no one believes me. I tell doctors that i need to feel good standing upright and they try to fix my blood pressure but I feel like I’m going to pass out.

Three years ago today, I was on a train to New York when, just outside Newark, I suddenly felt like I was going to pass out. After an urgent care visit and a trip to the ER, we chalked it up to a bad day, maybe a bit of a hangover.

I still work, travel, ride my bike, see friends, and try to enjoy my life. But everything takes more effort, planning, and compromise than it did three years ago. Even on good days, I know I might feel terrible tomorrow.

I miss being able to get up in the morning and simply exist without thinking about how I feel. I miss being spontaneous. I miss trusting my body.

Beyond the physical symptoms, there’s the psychological toll. Almost every waking moment is consumed by monitoring my body, analyzing symptoms, anticipating the next bad spell, and wondering what might make tomorrow better. It’s exhausting to have your own body demand this much attention.

I’m now working with a cardiologist who’s made meaningful progress controlling some of the cardiovascular extremes. But the underlying orthostatic intolerance, the dizziness and near-fainting that make ordinary life so difficult, remains largely unchanged.

Other days, the simplest activities feel impossible. I’ve seen neurologists, nephrologists, cardiologists, and long COVID specialists. I’ve undergone countless tests and tried medication after medication.

Some have helped, some have done nothing, and some have made me feel so awful I thought I was going to die. I’ve accumulated diagnoses, theories, and treatment plans, but very little lasting relief.

Instead, it was the beginning of a three-year health nightmare that I still don’t see an exit from. Nearly every day, I deal with dizziness, lightheadedness, and the sensation that I’m about to faint. My blood pressure and heart rate swing wildly, sometimes reaching frightening levels.

Medications I took without issue for years suddenly became intolerable. The strangest part is how unpredictable and limiting it all is. I can ride my bike for miles but struggle to walk around my neighborhood. Making dinner can become an ordeal. Some days I feel almost normal.

Thanks to the power of AI I have now built the Crosstown Expressway from the 1969 protests “Don’t build the Crosstown Expressway”

I’m starting to read “constantly fucking with their home network” as an indicator of someone finding make-work. The Ubiquiti people are the worst at this.

After 5 days of “waiting for review”, Bayou for macOS went into review, and it was only then that I realized I didn’t submit the subscription for approval 🤦‍♂️
