:) Visiting the fist solar project I will own. Its purpose, along with another 2-3 MWdc worth, will be to support a core company of ~10-14 people. From here, the attacks launch.

Is there a such thing as a higher quality/profit commodity product? ‘company attributed the improvement to rising sales of its all-back-contact (ABC) PV modules and the price premium the product commands versus other technologies in overseas markets…holds ~15GW of ABC module orders on its books’

pv-tech.orgAiko Solar returns to profit in Q3, unveils PERC to ABC upgradeAiko Solar has revealed a return to profitability in Q3 of this year and unveiled plans for a major upgrade of its PERC production line.

‘Operating revenue Q3: RMB 5.289 billion/$791 million’ ‘Third-party analysts estimate that ABC module shipments reached roughly 5GW+ in Q3’ That number says $0.158/W selling price. I know my market can handle that cost. It is 50% higher than market. That they are selling is pretty cool.

Also, I like this: ‘plan to retrofit its existing PERC cell capacity at its Tianjin base with 6GW of ABC cell capacity…total estimated investment at RMB 1.15 billion…Construction is scheduled to begin in Q4 2026, with phased commissioning starting in Q3 2027’ Many factories will need upgrading.

If we make weapons, let’s just be honest about what we’re doing.

‘If the emission cone can be narrowed to more closely match the absorption cone of incoming sunlight, which is exactly what our work demonstrates experimentally, solar cells will, in principle, be able to approach efficiencies close to 43%’

eurekalert.orgSolar cells gain efficiency by emitting light in fewer directionsICFO researchers have increased the power conversion efficiency of organic solar cells by restricting the angles at which they emit light. The strategy, presented in Energy & Environmental Science...

‘key to narrowing the emission cone is the use of a metal as the front electrode…layered structure surrounds this silver-based electrode to form, together with the silver electrode at the back of the cell…makes it possible to combine broad-angle reflectivity, which effectively narrows the emission’

Solar plus batteries might be a fundamental shifter of many things the world over and we just don’t e see it yet. Manufactured and deployed - everywhere - instead of warred, killed over, and shipped. We’re still modeling normal economics with this product. I think that will change. #bullish

6. In a way, it’s reassuring that solar is saturating, as it means solar is actually displacing fossil fuel rather than power demand increasing vertically. But it means the beginning of a new phase: the age of cheap solar and batteries. This too will pass, but it’s just getting started now.

They also gradually reduced planned output while wind speeds remained high. It makes me think they slowly reduced output as conditions worsened (eg. by feathering blades), which is exactly what's meant to happen.

Man that’s a lot of cash spent… *$405 billion for electricity in the same window last year. *$420 billion for oil, same window last year. *$1,000+ per household/$400+ per person *About $270-300 saved per EV.

Americans have now spent $142 billion more on gasoline and diesel since March 1, enough to buy 361,000 homes at the September median price, enough to house over 900,000 people, due to the US war on Iran and other factors like limited output from Russia

This is a nice looking piece of gear. Everything here is a big chunk of nice looking metal. I’m not qualified enough to know if they’re of the quality we’re gonna need for two decades. About to learn some things first hand.

‘From less than three dozen in 1949, the number of small hydropower stations in the People’s Republic of China grew to nearly ninety thousand by 1979. By the early 1980s, these stations were distributed across nearly 1,600 of China’s 2,300 counties’ arunabhghosh.scholars.harvard.edu/publications...

Without denying over the years the use of coal, etc. in China, I do always like to point out to my students the absolutely massive use of renewables and other green tech in China. E.g. starting in the 80s China provided electricity to over 300 million people with small hydro. This is a continuation

Shiny metal Friday! The big silver box is a CT cabinet. In the case of our system, it’s a big intersection component - with wires from the building, solar, and utility intermingling. I like it because it big chunky silver stuff.

We can.

In just five days, Uganda vaccinated 8.3 million children against measles and rubella. The nationwide drive, which ended on 5 October, covered every child aged nine months to five years, whatever their vaccine history. The Cooperator buff.ly/7VnZOYR #ShareGoodNewsToo

Is ActBlue considered directly donating versus texting? Even AOC have links to ActBlue on her page - so I assume they're cool.

Jake Grumbach@jakemgrumbach.bsky.social

We found that as of right now 73% of your campaign donation goes back to the consultants and vendors (!!!), four times more than just 20 years ago. Only 13% to ads. Even I was shocked.

Good idea!

I've always thought it would be an interesting business model to buy cloud apps/functionality from companies that go bankrupt for pennies on the dollar and maintain them for end users (for a small fee) in perpetuity.

BAD!! That's one of the worst jobs growth years in the last 75 years!

Steve Rattner@steverattner.bsky.social

When first reported, 2025’s jobs reports added up to 1.2 million new jobs. After revisions, the economy added just 116,000 — 90% less.

New Idea: All new energy systems that depends on an app/online access to work shold have a "bankruptcy mode" integrated that allows a third party to flash the system and take over so we don't lose resources.

The vote has been cast…it’s not a fair vote everywhere. It’s not a vote for many. The vote itself is only the quiet cumulative action at the tip of decades of motion and fury. Please be conscious as you consider the reality you wish to be part of and create.

Been wondering how much/how long of a hangover effect from China’s 2025 build out, had forgot about the March export tax/‘cheap module’ hangover.

Lauri Myllyvirta@laurimyllyvirta.bsky.social

China's exports of solar panels and intermediates grew 32% in September converted to gigawatts of finished panels, the metric that actually matters. Exports reached 54GW.

Faster & cheaper? ‘four construction innovations: automated foundation piling, a frameless panel design that uses steel rather than aluminium, press-fit bolt-free module installations, and on-site pre-assembly…could cut direct installation costs by around 22% and reduce installation time by <30%’
