ConCurrent Seattle

It's awards eligibility season and we at ConCurrent are definitely eligible for one award: the Hugo Award for Best Related Work. However, if you think we're a good fit for other awards, please do consider us! Short fact thread incoming. 1/

Oh hey, nice writeup of @seattlein2025.org and @concurrentseattle.bsky.social in the U. of Washington Daily (byline @chaitnad.bsky.social I believe, though the webpage seems to be missing it...) www.dailyuw.com/article/seat...

Oh! And the post includes picspam from both Writers with Drinks hosted by @charliejane.bsky.social and @charliesqueerbooks.bsky.social (no relation) and @concurrentseattle.bsky.social ! With gorgeous event photos by Jo Sisodia and Lauren Ring.

You'd think with the con over that we'd be able to rest, but there are still a few things to wrap up. I'm handling financials tonight. It's not a perfectly-in-focus snapshot, but here's the estimate. You gave us $5000. Our final tally? $5015.20. Nailed it. (Almost.)

Thread. If nothing else, this is a reminder of why we need to support organizations like @concurrentseattle.bsky.social, which made us all feel welcomed and seen. And it was fun!

*deep sigh*

We'd like to shout out Seattle's Clean Air Collective and mask bloc for providing us with free masks and air filters during ConCurrent. We could not have run the event without that help, and it was given to us for free. For FREE! What an amazing public service. Thank you so much.

It can be tricky getting to the Bullitt Cabaret. Fear not! Have a video. And when in doubt, follow the rainbow.

Prepping... Will post a "how to navigate the UAC" vid later!

So, we've given up on our early check-in thing after seeing some numbers. Just show up! We'll be there! Don't bring any jerks! And don't pretend to be someone you're not!

Introducing our mascot, Sparkles the UFOnicorn! Limited quantities of Sparkles stickers will be available at the registration desk 15 minutes before each panel. Please take only one; Sparkles is temperamental. (Thank you to the ConCurrent backers!) credit @rosefinchie.bsky.social

We're now up to date on our registration confirmation emails! Tomorrow, if you've registered, you'll receive our day-before email with a final early check-in link (makes it so we can just give your badge to you after you tell us who you are).

What's this? Our website looks a bit different now! The landing page has been redesigned to provide you with pertinent info at a glance. Walking directions from Summit as well as a map are now up front, as well as links to our credo, our FAQ, and our registration page. concurrentseattle.weebly.com

Five sleeps until ConCurrent! Today, we're strategizing on how best to wrap the UAC's stair railing in rainbow crepe paper.

Doing some research for @concurrentseattle.bsky.social 👀👀

As I'm getting ready for @concurrentseattle.bsky.social and @seattlein2025.org next week, I remember how anxious these events always make me. With that in mind, if anyone would like a hug from a Big Queer Dad who's built like a grumpy bear while we're in Seattle, just let me know. I've got you.

ConCurrent's 1 pm panel is Worlds and the Spaces Between: Exploring the Liminal in Science Fiction with @lowph.bsky.social @micaiahjohnson.bsky.social @yumewrites.bsky.social @feliciafm.bsky.social @charliejane.bsky.social. Come join us next Thursday!

More ConCurrent registration confirmations have gone out. If you've registered and haven't yet received a confirmation, please check your spam folder! Our last batch of confirmations went out around 9:20 am ET. Registered sparklecorns, there's an email coming to you later today. ONE WEEK TO GOOOOOO

I'll be at both cons, covering them for @thedailyuw.bsky.social! So if you end up coming to either, let me know because I'd love to hear about your experience!

I had the chance to chat with SunnyJim Morgan, division head for programming at WorldCon Seattle, and @itsamia.bsky.social (Mia Tsai) organizer of ConCurrent, to see what the cons have to offer science fiction fans next week in Seattle!

Oh. My. Goodness. Our badge ribbons have arrived. Worldcongoers, if you're coming to ConCurrent, we'll have these beauties awaiting you! And if we have spares after ConCurrent, you can grab one even if you're not registered.
