Two weeks left until #ElectionDay! CFC works relentlessly to advocate for legislation and policies that protect consumers, but we also need elected officials who are willing to FIGHT for consumers and help get those bills across the finish line to become law. Make your voice count and vote!

Honored to receive Katie Porter's endorsement. She's held the powerful accountable, put families first, and been a consistent advocate for lowering prices. That's the fight I’ll continue in Congress.

The Consumer Federation of CA endorses @benallenca.bsky.social for Insurance Commissioner because the CARS Act is one of many examples, not the exemption, of his strong track record on consumer issues. He has proven to be a leader and fighter for consumers even on the toughest issues.

Great reporting by @jessicaroy.bsky.social about new law to make buying new and used cars in #California more affordable and less risky. @choprausa.bsky.social @consumercal.bsky.social @consumerfed.bsky.social @nationalconsumers.bsky.social www.yahoo.com/news/politic...

In 2013, a fire truck cost $500,000.00. In 2023, the same truck cost $1,000,000.00. Why? Private Equity and giant corporations took control of the industry and jacked up prices. We can't let corporate greed make our communities less safe. @governor.ca.gov sign AB 1776, the COMPETE Act!

This should be national news. Waymo has the same capacity as Flock and are spending more time parked where people congregate than giving rides. The company is not forthcoming about where this surveillance data is going. We didn't consent to this.

AB 1720 would have capped resale prices of live entertainment tickets to 10% above face value. The problem? The bill would have exempted the monopoly (Live Nation/Ticketmaster) from this cap despite being one of the biggest players in the resale market. [2/3]

We were in Sacramento this week with workers, small business owners, labor leaders, lawmakers, and advocates calling on the State Senate to pass the COMPETE Act. California has a chance to rein in corporate power and restore fair competition. It’s time to pass AB 1776.

Yesterday, WGAW Secretary Treasurer Peter Murrieta joined officials and advocates in Sacramento in support of the COMPETE Act, which will update state antitrust laws to help ensure a fair economy for workers, small business, and consumers. When competition works, writers win. https://bit.ly/AB-1776

The Consumer Federation of CA (CFC) applauds the CA State Assembly for passing the COMPETE Act (AB 1776). CFC especially thanks Assemblymember Caloza and those members of the State Assembly who stood up for consumers & small businesses against the monopolies abusing the marketplace.

“CFC doesn’t usually endorse more than one candidate but given the fluid nature of California’s Governor race and the quality of these two candidates, we felt it was warranted here. Both Katie Porter and Tom Steyer would make an excellent governor of California.”

CFC was honored to host Stanford Professor Mordecai Kurz earlier this month for a timely seminar on #antitrust and #marketpower, as legislators consider a new bill (AB 1776 - COMPETE Act) that would modernize and strengthen #California’s antitrust laws. 🔗 Link to full seminar in our bio!

Join Professor Kurz as he explains how the 1980’s policies of unregulated free-market capitalism, coupled with the IT revolution, created a “techno-winner-takes-all" economy that has led to a second Gilded Age of unsustainable inequality today. And more importantly... what can be done about it?
