Blur removal patches for Genki's games (Tokyo Xtreme Racer, Fuun, Ninkyouden) are out! I will prepare blog pages for those a bit later, but for now you can grab them directly from GitHub. Kaido Racer also got patches to autostart in PAL60 and in English. github.com/CookiePLMons...

At last, BeamNG enabled ASLR on their core engine DLL; the high entropy flag (0x20) is still off, but it's considerably less relevant and would be "nice to have". Glad to see a change of heart here

As of PCSX2 v2.9.145, those patches are bundled with the emulator, and can be enabled for each game individually through the Game Settings -> Patches -> "Remove Blur"!

25 years ago, on October 22, 2001, Grand Theft Auto III was released. This is the team that made it. (I'm second from the right) Here's what I remember about making it.

Gran Turismo 4 does the same kind of a blur as Genki games do, my disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined Now I can't help but think how many people (and in how many games) think "smear" is caused by interlacing, when in reality it's this anti-flicker/AA pass.

All PS2 games from Genki except for the very first one (TXR Zero) share the same underlying tech, which means they all benefit from blur removal patches: here's Fu-un Shinsengumi that finally looks sharp when upscaled.

I'm afraid that the initial launch ended up being so bad that their rep never recovered enough, and that's the consequence. It was a very respectable attempt, but something along the way must've gone very wrong and they may have ended up overspending and underdelivering.

UPDATE: Liquid Swords CEO confirms the studio is "closing its doors" six months after launching its debut project Samson

One more QOL improvement - Kaido Racer can now auto-select PAL60/NTSC and the language, so it's no longer necessary to go through those two screens at startup every time.

"You get ONE hour off for selling out your colleagues" would be considered too corny to be parodied in GTA, and yet it happened here

Wow holy fuck what a shit in principle but also at least have some selfworth and ask for more than an hour of time off for betraying your entire field www.verticalslice.news/rockstar-acc...

While the sharpness patch works even in Software mode, it then becomes clear what was its original purpose - with this render pass deleted, the game looks really jagged. Here is C1 Grand Prix in software mode, accurate to the console.

Other games from Genki react to the same changes very well: TXR3 and TXR Drift 2 look the sharpest they have ever been, and since it works fine in the oldest and the newest affected games, everything in-between (like Kaido Racer and C1GP) will definitely work great too.

TXR Drift always looked kind of blurry, and it was accurate to the console - it has a postfx pass that is offset by one scanline. Un-offsetting it preserves effects like the depth of field, but clears up the upscaled image considerably. I think I'm now ready for my playthrough.

Will certainly be checking it out

Announcing CD-R Racing, a love letter to the racing games of the 90s and a time portal to the rave music, the aesthetics, the vibes and the joy of the era. You can wishlist it on Steam as of today.

GearClub Unlimited 3 Low (equivalent to Switch 2 Quality setting) vs Ultra Not a huge difference, but a nice incremental improvement dialing up the draw distances and resolutions of effects

what the fuck

I've been participating in multiple playtests they hosted over the dev cycle, so I spent a lot of time with over the hill throughout - it's the most fun I had playing with friends for a long time. Chill, relaxed, yet provides a good challenge. Looking forward to replay it!

I'll be playing GearClub Unlimited 3 more when I'm back home, but for now I tried it on a Steam Deck - and it can hold 30FPS with XeSS Balanced when connected to a 1080p screen, and still looks reasonably nice. Pretty cool

Boss intro music "worked" in TXR Drift, they just played wrong tracks, just like most other discrepancies. Boss battle music was completely nonfunctional in this release, though, and only played Race Night music. Once again possibly hinting at Drift using earlier code - now fixed

TXR Drift messed up the soundtrack quite badly compared to Kaido Battle - all tracks were shipped, but the code looked as if it expected a smaller list, with 2 tracks from the middle of the list gone. I brought them back to the Music Test, and will restore the JP race OST too.

I don't know exactly why this happened. It might be that TXR Drift code is based off earlier Kaido Battle, predating the addition of those two tracks, but I have no proof of that from any other game systems. Crave's translations were always weird, but this is something else.

September Status Update has been published on Patreon and GitHub Sponsors! Not much happened this month - I focused on catching up with games coverage and updated the indie games list. Available for all Patrons & Sponsors, starting from $1/month. www.patreon.com/CookiePLMons...

The irony is strong with this one, but according to the reports, The Witcher 3 Remaster earns a spot on the Ŭ̴̹͝n̴̢̫͍̈́i̷͇̟̓̆ĉ̷͙̺̝̽͠o̶̳̾͋͗d̶̫̠̓͑͜e̶̘̽̎̕ ̸̮͙̉l̷̝̞͙͆i̴͓̜͓̋ṣ̸̏t̷̙̃̄͊ ̴̬̩͆̒̽͜ò̴͍̲f̶̱͉͌ ̷̺̼̤͆̕s̶͉̈̍̊ẖ̸͝a̷̱̩̟̋̚͘m̵͌̍͜ȩ̷̭̿̿̋ A Polish game can't handle Polish diacritics 😭 Repost to scare @cdprojektred.com

People never used mods like this seriously, they were always made to prove a point: in the past, they were made to flex your understanding of both the source and the target game, "I documented them so well, I can do this". Now they flex... that you have tokens to burn, I guess?

"i put minecraft in elden ring" "i put tarkov in skyrim" its fascinating to see what a completely uncreative mind spits out when granted the ability to generate mods via AI Code. it's some ready player one bs. every time.
