you people cannot comprehend this level of grindset

"what are you going to do today," i asked my husband as we were lying in bed this saturday morning. "i need to grind my flaxseed," he said

"In Otanmäki, the disruption to nature and to residents’ daily lives is being vividly felt. When the trees were felled, the wolves who had lived there came to the village, said Anni Ranta, 53, whose family has lived there for generations." this feels like an A24 horror film premise somehow?

I, Ishmael, was one of that crew; my shouts had gone up with the rest; my oath had been welded with theirs; and stronger I shouted, and more did I hammer and clinch my oath, because of the dread in my soul.

i’ve been trying to cook down the essence of “consumerism as a religion” and I think I’m close. If you are looking to use your expectations (failed, disappointed, whatever) as a leverage point to get the behavior you want from an institution, you’re acting like a customer.

it's on sight for the bounce house

BΔTBΔRΔ@marteani.bsky.social

This gap is less than it cost the mayor to put a bounce house in the warehouse district for a summer. This is 1/33 the cost of MPS's surprise overtime. They renovated Target Center in part by making us, the citizens, pay $74 million via a sales tax. WE. HAVE. MONEY. We can spend it in better places

we genuinely deserve better than the nonprofit model. it's not sustainable to constantly beg for money, risk losing what little you have to work with every time someone new is in office, and invariably offload costs onto consumers. it's not about the money! it's just an offensively weak system!

tapping the "local utilities subject to the whimsicality of government spending" sign so hard my fist goes through it

corbin dewitt@corbindewitt.bsky.social

evie rules, but costs just went up like 25% due to those threatened federal cuts (among other factors), and this household in particular is furious about modi operandi that make local utilities subject to the whimsicality of government spending alongside the whimsicality of markets

observing the 25th anniversary of 9/11 by watching a building (my house) get holes torn in it (windows being removed) while i feel powerless and grapple with the knowledge that certain conditions are permanently changing

thinking about the way material culture persists in metaphor long after the original tool or process used in the metaphor—i.e. the necessary point of shared understanding for the metaphor to be useful—ceases to be common

Stoned Wheat Thins (circa 1972-2022): A line of hearty, sturdy, crunchy snack crackers, noted for their strong toasty wheat flavor. They developed a significant cult following, before Nabisco unceremoniously pulled the plug without explanation
