Why are younger children so good at learning new skills? One reason may be that they are better at a fundamental cognitive mechanism: statistical learning. We followed the same children from age 7 to 14 and found that this learning gradually decreases as they grow older. doi.org/10.1038/s414...

Very proud of Coumarane Tirou on his first first-author paper, now out in Nature Communications. On how the brain learns hidden regularities through noise using two distinct neural mechanisms. Huge congrats !! 🥳

🚨 New paper alert! Happy to share my first paper, "Learning regularities in noise engages both neural predictive activity and representational changes", has been published in Nature Communications. www.nature.com/articles/s41...

🧠 How do you learn a sequence through noise? We used MEG recordings of participants performing a visuo-motor task containing both predictable and random stimuli, and found that statistical learning of non-adjacent dependencies is supported by two neurally and temporally dissociable mechanisms.

🚨 Exciting new replication paper on neural predictions in humans using an open dataset! All details below 👇

🧠 Does the brain pre-activate feature-specific patterns resembling the perception of an upcoming, predictable stimulus? We reanalyzed the open dataset from Demarchi et al. (2019) and found no evidence of feature-specific neural pre-activation during auditory predictions. 🧵
