I've grown increasingly upset about ASM's actions and the way this situation may have unfolded. Whose idea was this? Was there a meeting with ASM leadership and they flagged webpages to be taken down? Did they vote on this? Was this done unilaterally by a single person? #MicroSky

Thank you, Vaughn. The importance of leadership at ASM grows by the minute. We are lucky to have Michele Swanson as our current President, Alex McAdam @amcadamclinmicro.bsky.social as President Elect, and you on board for July 2026. @asm.org

Vaughn Cooper@vscooper.micropopbio.org

I'm incredibly honored by this opportunity to serve as President-Elect of @asm.org starting this summer. Looking forward to working with the Board, ASM leadership ,and staff to help advance the microbial sciences. I'm also glad to share my Vision statement, please join us! asm.org/Press-Releas...

NPPB bound in the channel of TolC, below, prevents export of, among other things, the RtxA1 toxin, a virulence factor that rapidly kills host cells.

ASM@asm.org

The chloride channel blocker NPPB can potentiate the activity of antibiotics against the so-called flesh-eating bacterium Vibrio vulnificus by inhibiting TolCV1, a component of efflux pumps, which are critical for antibiotic resistance. #AACJournal: journals.asm.org/doi/10.1128/...

Holy Cow! ASM is posting on BlueSky!

#MicrobiologyMonday: The "robustness" of enterococci is tied to biofilm formation. The ability to study the genetic underpinnings of biofilms formed by enterococci & other bacteria has grown, which improves understanding of their form & function. Gene expression from the pLS20 conjugative plasmid is controlled by a mechanosensing signal transduction pathway responsive to flagella rotation, a strategy that may allow dissemination of the plasmid to remote destinations and infiltration of new niches.

Aurodox is a Streptomyces metabolite (linear polyketide) that interferes with Gram-negative bacterial infections of host cells. Roe et al. show Aurodox could work by reducing transcription across phylogenetically distinct Type Three Secretion Systems in E. coli, Salmonella, Yersinia and Vibrio spp.

New paper from the group. Very proud to share our recent work for the first time here on Bluesky- give me 50 likes and it’s a permanent move!🤣. doi.org/10.1098/rsob...

I am taking care of our neighbor's cat for the holiday. Their door lock has been hard to open and wouldn't budge this morning. I remembered our mechanical engineer daughter's rules: If it is moving and is not supposed to: Duct tape If is supposed to move and isn't: WD40 Problem solved: Cat fed.

When I left my faculty position at Providence College in June 2023 and joined Georgia Tech in a fully administrative position, I really wasn’t sure if I would get this paper over the finish line. I pulled some late nights and weekends, and I’m so happy it’s out now. journals.asm.org/doi/10.1128/...

Use it or lose it: Unless we publish papers in our society owned and published journals they will cease to be, along with all the conferences and meetings the proceeds support. Microbiology Society publishes many excellent journals, all edited by experts. #microsky www.microbiologyresearch.org
