I started Neon Genesis Evangelion for the first time yesterday and it’s the exact mix of incredible, inventive sci fi and uncomfortable sexualization of children that i would expect from a lifetime of ambivalent recommendations.

to be fair, it’s a story about traumatized adolescents living in the post apocalypse throwing themselves into machines (not really) that destroy them mentally and physically to save the world. i think there are relevant story aspects to their interpersonal relationship that should not be removed….

these kids all know on some level they will not live to see 20. that would fuck anybody up and would affect how you relate to your peers and the adults around you and that’s interesting! I don’t need to leer at the teens to understand that and i am prob being overly generous in that interpretation!

i watched four movies yesterday because i had the flu. Ranked: 1) Vulcanizadora 2) A Perfect Getaway - thriller with a great cast and a twist that doesn’t make a whole lot of sense but heck it’s fun 3) No Other Choice - good but way too long 4) Hope - stunk but did some things so good. frustrating!

I feel like a lot of ppl missed Mike’s pre-RTJ Ron Paul shilling on twitter. He’s always been a libertarian who likes revolutionary aesthetics (like lots of Ron Paul guys!)

was watching the new spider man last night and thinking it was pretty good and then i checked the time and there was an hour and seventeen minutes left and i thought we were almost done. and i’ll tell ya, they did not need to be doing all that.

my band has a new instrumental-so-far song that i really like and last night i started improvising lyrics about owning a failing hooters franchise and i worry they may become the actual lyrics

as usual i will probably abstract it into some more generalized feeling or anxiety i have and write mostly new lines that aren’t jokes but then keep like 2 lines i like but that no longer make much sense in context

i dreamed that i brought my guitar in for repairs and when i went to pick it up they couldn’t find it and when they looked up the location code it was the one for the dumpster because they had messed something up so bad they had to throw it away and they wouldn’t tell me what happened.

i play a left-handed japanese made westone thunder II from ~1982. the number of these in existence is likely in the dozens at best if not approaching zero. i had an ebay alert set up for ~8 years before snagging one.

I built this all by myself from 5’ down (with shout outs to my wife for holding a board on 2 occasions and my friend brian for helping me haul the excavator w his truck and then failing to show me how to use it because he’s accustomed to backhoe controls which are, inexplicably, entirely different)

Here is a riddle for you: Q: what is a fun show in Portland on Friday? A: Honestly this isn't much of a riddle but Gum Parker, Outro and TIFFY at the Apohadion

biking to work has been such a boon… and that’s in spite of the near constant threat of death from incompetent or downright malevolent drivers! imagine if the infrastructure was designed for it!

she specifically wants the gun type, like mabel from gravity falls, which no one sells (not even in plastic toy form) for obvious reasons. yes i looked.
