Cooper, Audrey, and Diane's storylines all reach their climaxes in the antepenultimate episode of Twin Peaks Season 3, to an alternately euphoric and punishing emotional effect. My review is up at @popheist.com — gift link, but subscribe! I poured a lot into this one.

popheist.com‘Twin Peaks’ 3x16 Recap: One Hundred Percent - Pop HeistThe world that the Bookhouse Boys once tried to keep out of Twin Peaks has only worsened — metastasized is perhaps the better word.

I think the country is full of people like this, decent people who behave decently and teach others to do the same; and that these people look at participants in the regime, who flaunt their indecency, the way Kurt Russell looked at the Thing.

You have to really, really, really fucking suck for your 8th grade teacher to come out and shame you like this. Damn.

"The thousand injuries of Grover Elmo had borne as Elmo best could, but when he ventured upon insult Elmo vowed revenge."

Why does this Sesame Street toy look like Grover is reenacting Poe's The Cask of Amontillado

"[his eyes were] windows into a hell never even considered, and still there was that awful good humor in them, eyes that had watched down the crooked alleys of a thousand tenebrous night towns; those eyes were glaring and glinting and finally stupid." —The Stand

"DJ Shadow talks about all your favorite shit" okay I'm in

Over 2,000 alumni from Vivek’s all-boys catholic high school in Cincinnati have signed and circulated a petition demanding that he pull the ad and issue a public apology for “ignoring the moral responsibilities” of his Jesuit education. I think he’s pretty cooked.

chat I don’t think doubling down on this ad is working out real well for vivek

Schumer, Gillibrand, Jeffries, the state Democratic party, all of them thought to themselves "we'd prefer to distance ourselves from the hugely popular Democratic politician." Canny Kathy Hochul thought to herself "actually, popularity is good"

What's striking to me are the rules of engagement and the methodology of action here, which more or less is predicated on burying liberal delusions about "debate" or the "marketplace of ideas". The rules were ultimately very simple: amplify your own message and suppress your opponent's.

I don't know that there is a template or a "secret sauce" or a clear-cut lesson to take from this. But if there is one it's the idea of treating social media as the hostile territory that it is, of actually acting like you are a participant in propaganda warfare and not like a consumer.

Why does every interview with a WWE Superstar sound like the testimonials people in the Party give in 1984 after they've been broken in Room 101

I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.
